"INTUNIV, the first nonscheduled alpha-2A receptor agonist indicated for ADHD,
demonstrated improvement in a range of ADHD symptoms that can be disruptive,
such as inattention, arguing with adults, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and
losing one's temper""Once-daily INTUNIV is expected to be available in US pharmacies in November
and will come in four dosage strengths (1 mg, 2 mg, 3 mg, and 4 mg). INTUNIV
will be marketed in the United States by the existing Shire ADHD sales team of
nearly 600 representatives. INTUNIV is not a controlled substance and has no
known potential for abuse or dependence.( )"I'm curious as to how this would combine with stimulants. Anyone ever tried Guanfacine under the brand Tenex?

That's a great question. Nowhere in the announcement you posted does it mention attentional impairments.

I know that people have. I hope you get some feedback on this.

> I'm curious as to how this would combine with stimulants. Anyone ever tried Guanfacine under the brand Tenex?Yes, for an attempt at tic reduction. It didn't do a lot for me.
As for ADHD there may be an angle of my multicomplex that has some side attributes but there is no diagnosis of that spectrum.
Also tried clonidine for some rage issues I think I was having, not much either.
But then I was taking it within the standards of care for my doctor's practice -- I don't know if people raise either drug relative beyond the standard 0.5mg BID without some careful consideration.
Its a heart medication, and like similar substances carries burdens including rarer but serious things like angioedema, etc.

Hi,I have tried guanfacine for ADD w/ and w/o Adderall. They mix just fine.
I also had a compounding pharmacy make me some custom sustained release guanfacine capsules that required 3x a day dosing.
I was able to concentrate very well w/ the guanfacine, but only for 1/2 hour or so.
Hopefully Intuniv's effect will be much longer lived.November, huh? This thing was supposed to be out Q1 2009. But I read on some pharma-salesman message board that shire was dragging their feet on this so as not to cannibalize sales from their other ADD drugs. Bastards. (if true)

Well, I'm interested in Guanfacine because with my ADD I have a lot of symptoms such as restlessness, irritability, sometimes anger, body feeling hot and uncomfortable, restless legs, hypersensitive, etc. Anti-psychotics and ssri's made these symptoms worse for me.... benzos were only mildly helpful and excacerbated my ADD issues along with lowering my confidence and social skills(I'm a social phobic as well). Propranolol gave a little bit of relief as well but also excacerbated my concentration problems.
So, I'm wondering if Guanfacine might be something that might be helpful in this regard along with maybe even enhancing my concentration/focus a little bit. I've read it increases NE in the prefrontal cortex, improves working memory, sustained attention, etc.
I've tried Adderall and experienced some help with concentration/focus, verbal fluency, confidence... but it also would make me overfocus at times and made me more restless/irritable. The other I didn't like about Adderall is that it tends to make me feel robotic... I would have an increased desire to socialize with people but I always wanted to talk about serious things and it killed my sense of humor and perhaps some of my creativity also. I don't like that feeling. Never tried the methylphenidate drugs... do they give you the robotic/serious feeling too?
Another thing, being both blood pressure meds, would Guanfacine be effective against physical symptoms of Social Anxiety like Propranolol is? I assume it would be. If Guanfacine can produce a calming effect for me with also giving mild cognitive enhancement that would be great.
Also, saw there's a clinical trial up for Guanfacine for the stress of smoking cessation. I wonder if a combo of Buproprion and Guanfacine might help me kick the smoking habit.
This is the end of the thread.
