My dose is #6 10 milligram percocet per day. Severe osteoarthritis left hip with #180 10 milligram percocet per day. Hip replacement scheduled for end of Sept. Script written to last a month.
The docs out for two weeks on vacation. The nurse is taking care of things in his absence.Hip is crumbling every day and pain getting worse.Nurse changes my dose to 5 milligrams and 180 pills. This is cutting my dose in half.
I asked the desk to find a doc to change this script as pain is very severe and can't take a half a dose now.
The nurse went home and the desk said none of the remaining docs could change the script. She claimed there was no notation of my pill strength. Can't believe doc didn't note strength. I said call the pharmacy. None of the docs would be bothered. Every one goes home at 3:00 p.m.
I told them I would not accept the wrong script. So none of the docs could write the correct script. The nurse wrote the wrong strengh and went home.
Medicine is like an assembly line. Scarey how the front desk people and nurses hate their work and are so hostile to patients.
So a nurse has the authority to change my pain med strenth and leaves the office at noon.
No one at the office has the authoity to write a new script.!
Just venting and in pain!!

That is so wrong in so many ways. Would you be able to bring in your old prescription bottle to show another doctor? Insist that you get to see someone. That doesn't make sense that no other doctor can write a script.

Good thought. I gave her the pharmacy's phone number. I brought in a list of the meds I am taking and doses. So there's plenty ways of finding the right dose..
Every one was in a rush to leave the office. Seemed like the olympics. No wonder people die all the time with inept people rushing their work.
I made sure I didn't accept the wrong script.

People who take opiates (for whatever reason) are routinely treated like this (unless you are very rich?).
An old (very poor) friend of mine was dying without opiates, the doctor who had prescribed them saying that she, aged 83, needed to be taught a lesson, the hospital doctors being unavailable. So she is dying and withdrawing from a minimal oxycodone dose. No sleep for a few days.
She was left alone in the bath for half an hour. She yelled out eventually. I read her chart, where the problem was worked through.
Problem: Patient calls out in bath.
Solution: Patient counseled to use the call feature.
That's a university education for you.

> fbThanks to you and everyone for your support. I will not accept the changed script. I will do without the meds and talk to the doc who is coming back Monday.
My hip feel like it is filled with broken glass when I try to walk. I need 20 milligrams of percocet to tolerate walking.
After the operation I will wean off the med. You would think they want to keep the patient comfortable.
They treat you like a drug addict who is just trying to get high.

Bulldog, you have to go without until Monday? No back-up?
I hope I'm mistaken,

Wouldn't it be better to fill the script and take the dosage that you regularly take. Then see your doctor on Monday for a new script. You can't go on until Monday in pain.

My exact thought take the new script take normal dose and discuss with doc on Monday. Nurses don't have authority to change a medication unless a Nurse Practioneer and then some limitations as to what types of med. Phillipa

Bulldog, are you in the US? Nurses cannot change doses of any medication, unless an APRN that can write scipts.
I agree with Maxime, you can let it go until Monday if necessary and take 2 pills (5mg) in place of 1 (10mg) pill and get straightened out next week when your doc is back.
Yes, health care has changed for the worse and not too many are there for the patients anymore, much more about concerned about themselves, a creation of the "me" generation. Get used to it as this is an outcome of parents raising their kids with the attitude they are number one, not others, as a field like nursing requires.
You'll get it straightened out, they just made a mistake and are too busy with themselves to pay attention to you. Go straight to the doc that wrote the order and tell him what happened. It should be easily corrected and no one would change a medication from 10 mg to 5 mg without discussing it with you first.

Make sure you always check your scripts as I have found mistakes on more than one occassion.
These people need to double check their work as script mistakes in and out of the hospital have killed many people.

Well, I have panic attacks, and believe me, freezing up and feeling unreal is not plesant.
I went off Xanax, and take Xanax XR 1mg at night, you just have to learn to deal with something's because life is not fun.
But alway's keep your hopes up. Belive in faith something good will happen, that is faith.
This is the end of the thread.
