Re: Parnate daytime sedation.
I don't have a problem with this, but many, many people do. Someone recently asked me whether this side effect ever disappears on its own with continued treatment.
What does the sedation feel like? How does it affect you? What time during the day does it appear?
Is it dosage-dependent?
What do you do to combat it?
Does it ever go away on its own?
Thanks in advance!

I had the daytime sleepiness problem when I took Parnate. It took about a month for it to disappear, and when it did it happened overnight. I would suddenly get intensely sleepy in mid-afternoon, around 2 or 3 pm. It would hit quickly, and I'd practically fall asleep standing. Staying awake was an extreme challenge. It lasted about 90 minutes to two hours max. Afterwards, I'd feel fine. Then at night I couldn't sleep. In my case, it totally resolved - both the nighttime insomnia and daytime "narcolepsy," in about four weeks.

Scott i found that standard everyday caffiene tabs 250 mg pure caffiene at your local 7-11 had a synergy in those cases.
Coffee however is not the same, because the coffee grind is somewhat sedating so it needs to be just pure caffiene tablets.
I started my nortylpine augment today scott hope i have as much success as you have.

Thanks for the reply. This might go against your doctor's clinical judgment, but I find that I need full therapeutic dosages of nortriptyline when using it as an adjunct, just as one would if he were taking it as monotherapy. Use blood levels as a guide if you are not responding adequately. Most people need 75mg. Rapid metabolizers require considerably more.
Blood level range: 50-150 ng/ml
Good luck. I look forward to hearing good things.

Hi Guys:
My whole big family are all at my house this weekend. I'm taking a moment's breather.
My experience is, (with your help Scott, thanks!), Parnate+Nortriptyline=THE BOMB!!
When I stopped the amytryptyline and started the nortriptyline (on 12 1/2mg) I felt immediately something good was happening!! and I have felt much much better!!!
I have upped the nortriptyline to 25mg and may up it some more. I'll have to see. I am having some "cranky attacks).
I'm on 50mg Parnate, 25mg Nortriptyline and 100-200(trying to get off it) Provigil.
I did have those side effects that were mentioned, they daytime fatigue, the late afternoon knock out etc. Those side effects are going away.
I take 2 Parnate as soon as I get up, the other 3 I spread out over the day but take them before 3:30pm. I take the Nortrip about 6:30 and it helps me sleep.
It all seems to be working out pretty well except I may need a little more Nortrip.Generally speaking, I'M A HAPPY CAMPER!!
Hope that helps.

Thanks for starting the thread Scott. I've just finished 4 weeks on Parnate 30mg/d + small amounts of nortriptyline when I think about it. I'm sleepy this morning but yesterday wasn't too bad. So it seems to be one day bad one day good as far as sleepiness is concerned. A psychpharmacologist I know favours doxepin over nortriptylene

> FredA friend of mine did reasonably well on a combination of Nardil and doxepin (Sinequan). Doxepin tends to be sedating, presumably because it is such a powerful antihistamine. The stuff works, though. Doxepin is one of the few tricyclics I haven't tried, so I cannot attest to the degree to which the sedation dissipates.
