I know this is a strange question but I switched from generic klonopin to brand name because I thought the generic wasn't working. Tonight about a hour and half ago I took the name brand pill and went to bed as I was tired but relaxed. I just woke up in such a panicked state had a nightmare and couldn't move. I couldn't believe it. The only meds I took was the Savella which I have been taking for a month and this new brand name Klonopin 2mg.
I don't know what to think. Has anyone experienced something like this after taking a benzo? Does anyone have any plausible explanation? Now I am all freaked out.
Gosh, this is such a never ending story.

I suppose it's possible, but not common. My sister has a severe panic disorder and gets a panic attack when she takes a vitamin C!! Perhaps a bit of a psychosomatic effect you've experienced, anticipatory anxiety in a way?
I've been taking clonazepam for 22 years, every day, religiously and believe it helps prevent a full-blown attack.... I still have some anxiety but it's very manageable.
I would not rely solely on the clonazepam to treat severe anxiety. It works good in combination with a ssri such as paxil or zoloft, IMO.
When I first started on it, I was prescribed 2mg, 4x/day until I found an A/D that worked on anxiety. Since then, I've been taking 0.5mg/3xday.
I look at clonazepam in a different light than many as far as it's classification, after all, it is an anticonvulsant. I believe that's why it has "staying" power when used long-term, more so than ativan or zanax. It may help you accept the drug and let it work it's magic by realizing it's a pretty safe and proven med. After all, kids have been taking it for many years to control their seizures.
I'd give it some time to work before considering other options. So, if you did experience a panic attack, tell yourself it could have been much worse had you not taking clonazepam!
I hope you feel well...... Rick

Strange you think it could have been coincidental? Do you get nightmares as I do too often lately. I also have anxiety disorder and valium is what I take at bedtime. Since you were on the generic I don't feel it's the med the namebrand is stronger from experience. Love Phillipa I do hope you can get some sleep.

Hi Ihatedrugs,
I think it takes about 1/2 to 1 hour before klonopin hits the system. Maybe you had a panic attack unrelated to the meds? I would think the nightmare and what sounds like a bout of sleep paralysis (don't know the technical term for that) would cause panic rather than meds. (I have had sleep paralysis, esp. after daytime naps.) And like everyone else here, you've got a lot on your plate, and a nightmare is enough to shake anyone. How are you doing now? Hope you get some good sleep.

Hi thanks for your replies.
I took a dose of Savella upon going to bed as well. Usually I take it in the afternoon to avoid insomnia. I don't suffer from panic attacks and I have been taking Klonopin for several years it was just this was the first time taking the name brand.
The more I think about it the more i believe it may have been coincidental. And as one poster wrote it fell more like a night terror than a panick attack. I took some Vistaril after waking up just to be safe. Now it is two in the morning and I can't sleep. I'm not going to fret about it.
At this point, I taking the punches as they come.
Thank all
ihatedrugs , I'm also alloftheabove it just I am using mozilla which has me as the latter.

> ihatedrugsOMG, I just figured it out. I'm going through Ambien withdrawals. It is 5:30 am I have been trying to sleep but all I have is night terrors and immense anxiety. I thought it was the new Klonopin but it just seemed absurd. My dr. just took me off Ambien and eventually klonopin cause it is not helping with sleep. I went off the ambien cold turkey after taking it for about 2 years. I didn't realize it would be so problematic to get off. Dr. suggested a wean off schedule but I told her it wouldn't be necessary.
Has anyone here gone through ambiem withdrewal? How long do the symptoms last? They are horrid especially the nightmares where you are half awake and half asleep but are not able to move.
Thanks all

> fbHi fb,
No, Thank you for asking. I'm still taking Savella. I'm doing better but never great. In terms of energy, Savella really helps a lot. My sleep is still a problem. I'm taking 25mg of Seroquel and 2-4 mg Klonopin.
That's one of the reasons I'm apprehensive about taking emsam since it causes insomnia. At least I'm stable enough to go back to school. If I could only get rid of the weight these meds have put on me, I'd probably feel better but it seems to be a lost battle. I'm waiting for Agometaline's approval and see if it's a good fit for me.
Take care

Hey, Thanks for the update. Well, stable enough for school sounds good. I wish you a good semester and continued stability. I don't know what that new drug is you're waiting for. Will google it.
I haven't started the patch, either.
