Hi. I have severe Social Phobia.. I spend a ton of time reading everyone's posts.
I just wanted to say Im on Parnate 100mg/day and was on Clonazepam 4mg/day. I switched to Zanax 4mg/day along with my Parnate 100mg/day and life sucks worse then ever now. Im sooo tired. I feel like a zombie. And I know Antipsychotics can really make some people slow and mentally dull. I switched to Zanax 7 days ago. Since the Clonazepam cleared my system Im a Zombie, I'm dumb, words dont come to mind, It's not as good on my anxiety. The only thing that can awake me is alcohol. Im not an alcoholic, I love it because its the best med Ive ever found for SP (effective only when in combo with a Antidepressant. If im not on an Antidepressant , alcohol does not work). I awitched to Zanax because Clonazepam was almost working just not good enough at 4mg/day.
I GOT A JOB AGAIN so I need to be focused so Im switching back to clonazepam tonight. I just HAAAATTE the fact it will take 5-6 mg/day with 100mgParnate to work. Thats too much Clonazepam/any benzo... ANyway that was a rant.
I just want to augment my Parnate to get me out of this severe Social Phobia.
I hate high dose benzo's.
I hate that i can only see my psychiatrist every 6-8 weeks. My General doc will only augment my Parnate with Benzo's or buspirone. buspirone doesnt mix with MAOI's....... or does it. can I? should I try? alone or add it to my clonazepam which im gonna switch back to tonight to clonazepam.
I just want my Psychiatrist back so we can try to Augment my Parnate with an Antipsychotic, A month I got to wait! I think that will work , I cant take such high doses of benzos, its too scary for addiction reasons.
.... I following ALL your posts and post when I can. I even get so scared to post that I dont unless im drinking..
dammit.
just my rant.. sorta long..

So I guess your going to try something like Zyprexa for your anxiety?
What about trying to switch from Parnate to Nardil? I'm sure you've already considered this.
Yeah I'm a hater of xanax and all benzos. Sorry your having such issues with xanax. These drugs are very archaic ways of treating anxiety.IMHO

I'm archaic but when panic attacks very severe worked like a charm. Took miltown 400mg and valium 5mg TID and did drink three beers nightly. Now still take benzos 40 years later. But strangly have been on and off them through the years with no withdrawal. Since they didn't know of withdrawal then a part of me feels it's psychological. Now that it's known I can still lower at will and only take less than l0mg of valium only at night and less than .25 xanax. But now tolerant. Parnate glad you got a job but sad that your anxiety is so high. Have you started yet? Could be when mind occupied with work you will need less klonopin. Write. Love Phillipa/J

I don't really have advice--just support. I take klonopin at a lower dose and it works for my SA /SP enough. I understand disliking the benzo-track, esp. when you are finding you need a higher dose. Xanax doesn't work as well for me, either
How awful to wait that long for a pdoc consult.
Please write back and let folks here know how you're doing!

Yes I plan on something along the line of Zyprexa, Risperdal, GEODON (may not have weight gain) or Abilify (may not have weight gain but im in Canada so I cant get it here. Modafinil worked quite well when I had some, I hope my Pdoc is willing to start there. I HOPE. I really dont want more then a 2-3 med combo (ill cross my fingers.
I used to be on Nardil but it didn't work (yet still better then any SSRI's)It put 40 lbs on me and made my eyes always look glazed over like I was stoned.. It didnt get along with me after nearly one year trial, all the way up to 105mg/day. We added Zanax 2mg/day but that did nothing but made me slower and dumber.. I thought Zanax might work with Parnate because Parnate does work nicely with my body (no mental dulling/slowing/weight gain/and has good AD effect.. just its missing the anxiolytic effect. I thought Zanax might work better then clonazepam.
AH well. I changed over last night back to clonopin and I feel somewhat better already. I only worked for 2hrs this morning with 1 other person so it was ok, since then ive just been in my room. I know clonazepam will kick in a bit by tomorrow and give me hope again.

LOL Phillipa your not archaic but thats funny.. haha, nice to hear ya.
Yes I started my job. Im setting up giant outdoor tents and chairs for big events like wedding, small fairs, etc etc. My boss is too good to be true. He's one of my best friends dad and Im great friends with their family.. so thats good. im glad they havent asked me why I quit school and do nothing... They know that I can be one hell of a riot, they think im bipolar, they drink in the evening and dont mind drinking so when i visit them Im always in a great mood because I drink with them.. im not drinking while I work for him. The clonazepam/Parnate im sure will let me work hard and focused. That will be great because it will be a great reference. (first job in over a year).
Ill have to keep you posted.. I cant guarentee I wont get agorphobic again. HA I better not!!!
Phillipa.. WHy can some people get away with such small doses of benzo's??? If I were you id be at 10000grams/day of valium and zanax... just kiddin but why do I need so much for me to feel anything at all.
Right now I drink 6 beer/coolers and about 5oz of vodka in the evening... GOD I want a drug to work and get back to psychotherapy. WHen I feel better and dont have debilitating anxiety I dont drink at ALL, unless socially. I gotta get off the liquor because im sure it will screw up any med regime I try..
Im glad your on such a small amount of benzo's and Luvox.. I know its not helping you enough but hey! Its 2009 and Psychotropics are getting better.. We shall arrive at "cure"(way better crutches) soon for these mental wounds soon.

Good to hear from you FB.
Its hard to say how Im doing since ive become so familiarized with my situation. Living in fear of most all social situations. Its compounding. I cant believe I'm giving benzo's a trial at an almost effect dose for the first time ever! And wow I was right I need wayyyy too much.I never got addicted or had a craving for a benzo because they only work at 4mg clonazepam/equivelent of another but really I need 6mg clono.
Every bad experience I have in society is another experience to add to the list to never go there again. My mom asks me Why am I getting worse.. Well because the older I get(im 24)the more bad experiences I have around people (Panic, Paranoia, out of body, WAYY to self concious, now periods of agoraphobia and anger, alcohol induced euphoric manias)...
ANYWAY... aahh like I couldnt even check psychobabble untill I slammed a 8% beer because I was so nervous about if, what, who, when, someone would write back.. on and on.
Can I tell you a little background??? Ill make it poin form..
-First drug Paxil 20mg. Hypomania for 3 months till I withdrew because of side effects.
-Alcohol + Antidepressant make me euphorically manic.
-I now get mad easy because my life is passing me by
-I had 1 month remission on effexor (never had 1 drink) then it pooped out and I needed to add alcohol, lost my job and hospitalized for zanax/opiat/alcohol overdose..why? I needed out, I couldnt go to work and it was my last year practicum which was soo important.
-7 years at college was fun/sad/periods of hypomania(alcohol induced) or the paxil hypomania which does zip anymore)
-ALcohol and any antidepressant whether it works or not will be augmented by alcohol to the point where im sooooooo happy to be free of anxiety that i seem excessively euphorically manic. ends quickly untill i slam another drink. That is Why People think im bipolar. I am i guess BIpolar4.
-Im really just a sever social phobic who drinks because its the most effective and when antidepressant/mood stabilizers doses go up and down I can get hypomanic which totally throws people off because one second im scared sh*tless and dissapear, the next second I wanna go to the club or be so talkative and confident at a party/ get together.
k ill stop there... I went overboard Damn.. I only needed to say how im doing.. well I drunk 3 8% beer now so I wrote too much..
Let me know how you are...

Hi Back and thanks for writing. I'm wondering if you aren't on the bipolar spectrum (AD induced hypomania). In my experience, my undiagnosised (untreated) bipolar made, no, fueled my social anxiety until it became social phobia. My phobia is in remission now--I did do some cbt with someone who specialized in social phobia, so he knew how hard it was to leave my house and come to his office! Let's say I still have SA, take klonopin. Haven't worked in three years, so kudos to you on your job!
BTW, my speculations on bipolar are only MHO.

Parnate I just never needed more. But my alchohol intake at one point started to get out of control so quit. No drinking in 14 years. Sounds like a fun job but seven years of college is enormous what is your Major? Love and hugs Phillipa
