hi everyone, I was put on reboxetine about 4 weeks ago and for the 1st week I have never felt an AD work so quickly, the urinary hesitancy and sweats have passed, and the headaches are getting better, but I still have severe constipation and this bizarre cold which just wont go away, it's been driving me nuts for 3 weeks now. Just constant sneezing and a nose like a tap. It's totally liquid, like water, it just won't stop running. I've tried just about everything on the market to stop it except for antihistamines.
Has anyone else experienced this from reboxetine? Or is it the headcold from hell. And no I don't have influenza. I don't have a fever, body aches or sore throat.

Hi Cactus.
I can't be sure, of course, but it might be the strong norepinephrine (NE) reuptake inhibition of reboxetine that is causing sinusitis. Desipramine, another strong NE reuptake inhibitor, always gives me a stuffy nose and sinuses. It usually goes away for me, though.
I hope things clear up.

I haven't experienced reboxetine, but I can say that I developed allergies since taking medications and now take zyrtec which is the only antihistamine that has helped with sinusitis (I tried muccinexx, a nasal spray, alavert, claritin, sudafed, etc. to no avail). Problem is zyrtec is not mood friendly for me so I am trying to get my insurance to cover Xyzal (waiting on decision). If you haven't tried zyrtec it might help- just take a night and watch your mood- took me a while to figure out it was one of the culprits.... Others take it fine without any side effects though- good luck! SInusitis is not fun (I thought I had a tic I was clearing so much mucus from my throat-lol)

Thanks Scott,
I went and bought a nasal spray for allergies, fluticasone nasal and guess what, bingo!! It's gone for now. Thanks for your response, it was of great help to me, much appreciated, C

Hnnn, it's back again and worse and I'm still taking the antihistamines, I just can figure this out, maybe I have a bug. I'll go have some blood test done. This is now the 4th head cold in 8 weeks and I forgot, I had the first one before I started Edronax. I've been a bit scattered lately.

After I take Valium I get a lot of mucous for 15 minutes, which is my body's way of saying 'Enough' though my mind does not agree.

Thanks Sigismund, I wouldn't quite say it's mucous, it's more like water, dripping from my eyes and nose. Round 4 has stopped for now, hopefully that's the last of it. I find it comes back after I exert myself, mainly with exercise. I did have a cold 1 week before I started it but it keeps coming back, worse every time. It's a lot like hayfever in nature, but it's winter and I haven't had hayfever for about 15 years and although antihistamines helped a bit at first, they don't anymore. Have you tried Edronax?

No, I doubt that it would agree with me, but I really don't know. Milnacipran gave me a nice feeling along with an ants under the skin feeling, which I thought reboxetine might give me. A friend said that rebox made him feel bigger, as in more significant.

I found that reboxetine gave some mild stimulation/motivation the first few days, however, I felt a worsening of my depression slowly progress. Other significant issues were intermittent sleepiness, constipation, and irritability/instability. I've given it several further re-trials throughout the years but they have all resulted the same.
On a somewhat related note, Pfizer has gotten in trouble in Europe lately for supposedly cherry-picking positive data and suppressing negative data during Reboxetine's clinical trials.

hm i'd be surprised if reboxetine causes runny nose. somehwat similar drugs like ephedrine are used to dry out the sinuses.

Interesting, it's been about 2.5 months now and I'm experiencing exactly what you have described. The irritability/instability is starting to worry me a bit. I saw my doc today but didn't get a chance to talk things through properly with her. I'm lowering my does to 6mg a day 4mg AM 2mg PM. I've have had insomnia on and off for years but this is ridiculous and it's getting worse as I go on. In the last 3 weeks I've been lucky to get more than 5 hours a night.
I does work extremely quickly, the 1st week I was feeling amazing, no AD has ever done that for me. It's gone now and so have most of the side effects except for some cracking headaches and lack of sleep. At least my 1's and 2's are back to normal. Nothing worse than not being able to urinate. Thanks for your reply. C

Hi Cactus
I thought I'd share some of my own experiences and what i've heard and seen in others (just so you know, it's not just you)
My sister and I both take Edronax and have experienced the same side effects you describe, but with a bit of a difference and I will go to explain...sorry, but bit of a story needed to explain clearly
My sister has been taking it for a little longer than me. We both take 2 x 4mgs twice daily.
I do find that it gives me a dry mouth, but because I don't drink enough water, it encourages me to do so, which becomes a kind of beneficial tool in the end.
I exercise regularly and have done so for a while, so I know that these effects are from the edronax.
I only get the runny nose (clear and like a tap also) if I go running and my sister experienced the same thing not long ago whilst running. The first time it happened, my nose ran for 4-5 days with constant sneezing which drove me mad! I thought I'd just caught a cold or something.
It stopped eventually, and I went running again. The same thing happened, but only lasted the rest of the day. I thought it bizaar as I hadn't experienced it before and have never had hayfever. The next time I went running again it happened again so I thought seeing as there was a pattern, I should investigate and experiment.
I asked a friend who is a qualified sports scientist about running, runny nose and sneezing. She said that some people get a runny nose when running becuase when the core body temperature rises, it liquifies the mucus in our body. She suggested that the sneezing was due to the runny nose irritating something. She suggested trying a nasal spray before running to clear the nose, and an antihistamine to prevent the sneezing.
This worked the first time preventing the nose running just after I'd stopped the exercise and therefore no sneezing.
I've been running many times since and have noticed that.....
....if i dont use the nasal spray before, I get a runny nose for hours after (just discovering this now, as in today)
....the antihistamine only stops the sneezing, not the runny nose.
I spoke to my doctor about it and he said that another patient had been complaining of sneezing and my sister couldn't stop sneezing whils we were running last week (which she said had never happened before like that)
I also notice that my nose is extremely senstive even after it stops running - a feeling as if it was icy cold and the cold air kind of almost hurts so you prefer breathing through you mouth only until it stops.
So I have come to my own little conclusion....
Somehow something in Edronax makes the inside of the nose more sensitive, which can cause it to run or..... Edronax causes the nose to run, which makes it more sensitive. I'm not sure which comes first yet, the chicken or the egg, but i'm searching for answers and a solution because apart from this side effect, I think it works very well for me and have no other reason to stop taking it.
I understand that in your experince, your nose runs constantly for long periods of time, without the exercise being a catalyst, but hopefully this post helps in finding a solution. Maybe you already have the answer (if you do, please share)
Hopefully the latter is the case for both of us
Stay well and hope to hear some replies soon
:)

Hello msk09!
Welcome to Psycho-Babble.
That sounds like a really weird side effect of Reboxetine! I actually get a runny nose sometimes when I am exercising too. It doesn't happen all the time though. I read somewhere that some people are actually allergic to exercise, that it triggers the allergic reaction in some people. Maybe that is something to investigate.
Hmmm...but you're a regular exerciser eh? I wonder if people can suddenly become allergic?
It sounds like a very annoying side effect. I hope you find some way to get rid of it.

Hi Deneb
My sister and I both very athletic and health conscious, so we are pretty in tune with our bodies and yes, we have been exercising for many years and have both never experienced the extreme runny nose, sensitivity and/or persistant sneezing. We are both in our 30's
Although I ran yesterday, my nose is still uncomfortably sensitive to breath through this morning
What I desrcibed in my first post is definately not your normal runny nose that you get from exercise. I thought that maybe I had started to develop hayfever for the first time in my early 30's, but when my sister had the same symptom and my doctor said some clients on Edronax complained of abnormal sneezing, it made me wonder.
The first post of this thread is from someone who was experiencing the runny nose constantly, and by the sounds of it, it isn't atributed to exercise.
So i'm really working on a process of elimination here. I'll go for a run again thursday but will use the nasal spray and try a different antihistamine.
I really like edronax and I love running so hopefully it'll work out and a solution will be found:)

I stopped the edronax quite a while ago now and it's completely gone. Literally every time I exercised whilst on it I had this problem. Now it's gone. Thanks for your post, sorry I didn't reply earlier. C

Hi
No probs. I only posted yesterday fo the first time so your reply was quite speedy:)
Have you changed to a different AD or completely off them? I'd like to figure out how to stay on edronax, but stop the nose thing during exercise. Did your doctor offer any solutions at all, or an explanation of what might be going on?
Thanks

No, both my pdoc and GP had no idea and just said I had allergies, which I expected to be honest. Edronax finally pooped out and I was switched to cymbalta, had a bad reaction to that so I'm off AD's at the moment and I'm not doing very well. My pdoc went on holidays and said go back to modafinil. I ditched him and I can't see a new psychiatrist until next week if I'm lucky, but the modafinil isn't helping much, so I've gone to a naturopath to see if she can help.
I feel sort of stuck at the moment. Hopefully the Rhodiola, magnesium complex and fish oil might help, but I need to give that time to work too. Good luck, C

Hi
Sorry to hear that you're not doing very well. The trial and error of trying out new meds is never fun.
I hope i'm not being too annoying by posting back again, but apart from the runny nose, how did the Edronax work for you? I know you said you had some other side effects but did they all stop after a short period?
I only ask because as you probably experienced yourself, there's not a lot of information about it out there so all I can rely on is my own and my sisters experience at the moment. I don't think this side effect has been taken much notice of because people/doctors pass it off as just allergies or hayfever and instead of trying to research and find a solution, they switch meds.
Anyways, I really appreciate you feedback on this
Hope you feel better soon:)

Probably by far the best and fastest working Anti Depressant I have ever taken, side effects wore off over 2 weeks except for constipation and bizarre orgasms, but aggression kicked in after 2-3 months and it's fantastic mood elevating effects wore off very quickly for me. I really wish I could get that back. No AD has ever done that for me ever. It was like easy come easy go.
By 4 months it had stopped working and basically turned me into a very angry person, which is not in my nature at all. My pdoc tried adding lamictal to keep it going but that made things worse too.
At least it doesn't have withdrawals, but the lamictal did for me. I hope that was of some help.
Good luck. C

Reboxetine did not seem to do anything for me at all. I didn't get any side affects or benefits, infact I couldn't tell I was taking anything.

Hi Denise
Yeah, that's the problem with AD's. They affect everyone differently so there so it's always trial and error I guess. I'm being treated for anxiety, depression and ADD.
My Dr. suggested that I reduce my dosage of Edronax to see if it helps the nose stop running but even after a couple of day of that, I've been feeling quite low moods, finding it difficult to get out of bed initially, which is a feeling I dislike. I have plenty of interesting things to do so it bothers me to feel so flat and unmotivated.
I have upped my Edronax back to the original dosage of 2 x 4mgs tablets twice daily (hopefully I will feel normal in a couple of day again) but I have started using a cortisol nasal spray which is meant to prevent the inflamation of the nose.
I did read above that Cactus said the Edronax stopped working after a few months...I hope this is not what i'm going through. Did anyone else find that it worked initially, then seemed to lose it's effects?
Thanks everyone for your contributions
Msk

Hey msk, NRI's have a history of short lived respite. It sucks, I also found in the end that lowering my dose didn't stop the flu like symptoms either when I was mixing up my dosage.
What other ADD meds have you tried. I got 1.5 years out of modafinil which is the longest lasting med for depression/lack of motivation/OSA. It was great but if you have anxiety like I do I found it wasn't as bad on modafinil 200mg AM compared to the anxiety from Edronax.
If you haven't tried it Modafinil it might be worth a shot, also Strattera is the other NRI out there too, which I haven't tried.

I'm new to posting on here as you can see from above. Anyone still wanting to share experiences of Erdonax? I've been on it for 7 weeks now and am struggling with some side effects, enjoying others and sneezing myself into next year. I was wondering if anyone has played around with dosing times to alleviate the awful insomnia which I'm at a loss as to how to best deal with . Any suggestions welcome.
