I am currently on a combination of zoloft and ritalin which is working so so. I am still having problems (mainly with depression). Do you think there would be any antidepressant advantage of changing from ritalin to wellbutrin?

Ritalin was very short acting for me and it's definitely not smooth. I don't see it as very effective as an AD, because the effect only lasts such a short time, then you have to deal with being tired when it wears off. It does help somewhat, I'd agree.
The effect from Wellbutrin was much better; so much better that I have attempted to go back on it 3 times in the past year, w/no success. I currently take d-amp, which works well, but I can't take it in the evening (or I will not be able to fall asleep) when I have tons of stuff to do. Then I procrastinate. One advantage of WB is having an even keel-having it in your system 100% of the time.
When I was doing very well on Wellbutrin, my old PDoc said I was developing a dependence on it after I said "I love the Wellbutrin" (this was after experiencing the horrible affects of SSRIs for so long). So he took me off it. Never has worked again, but I'd try it again w/some sort of augment, to replace the dextrat, to give it another try.
The thing is, Linkadage, you could always try Wellbutrin for 4 weeks and go back on Ritalin if it doesn't help. I've never heard of anyone losing affects of stimulants when restarting them. Not that it doesn't happen-have you ever heard of anyone having this problem?
It's one of those drugs that let me feel like I am not on a drug; I think it worked well for me since I had adverse affects from seratonin acting drugs.
There's studies out there that show people taking an SSRI benefit greatly from adding Wellbutrin though.

I know Sertraline + Pupropin personally and I think it is a very good and time-tested combination. I even slept better after taking Bupropin (Wellbutrin) for some time and it limited the apathy induced by Sertraline.

> LinkadgeWell, you know Link, if you ask a bunch of doctors, sure, that's a real popular combination. Have you ever tried Wellbutrin? If not, well, I guess it might be worth a shot. I don't know why, I just don't have much faith in Wellbutrin. But I must admit, sometimes it works just great. It is actually quite weak on norepinephrine and dopamine, the things most people say it does. I believe its mechanics have something else going on the nitric oxide channels. I mean, it induces seizures at high doses, which tells you right there that something else is going on besides reuptake inhibition, which is actually very weak.
Enough armchair quarterbacking though. You know how it is. We can think it and outthink all we want, but only a trial will tell.
From that armchair quarterback stance, I would be more likely to say forget Wellbutrin, go for either Nortriptyline+Zoloft or better yet, better by a long shot...Zoloft+Savella.
