Hell, people have been telling me that for years. It is not only frustrating and enraging, but dangerous as well. There are still some people who insist that the attrocities of WWII never happened. Fortunately, I have had some luck explaining my illness to people.

Well with all my problems with this site, none are with the people,as much as i dont care for the site i value the people too much to stop comming,so many people here who understand the meaning of depression,i believe we need to make another name for it,depression is when ur down and a new car or money for example can bring u up,chemical depression is inside ur mind and heart, and a new car, money etc doesent mean anything, its like ur leg being on constant relentless fire all day every second, non stop, and someone says heres some money, you would be like well thanks wish i could show more appreciation but see my leg is in torture right now.
When we say that about our minds we usualy get a odd look and a smirk sound.People here are the people who understand the pain, and how it differs from simple depression.
Im in remission today,i will go out and see t4 and spend time wwith my brother watch him get drunk and laugh, but my heart filled wishes to all ill be back unfortunatly.

> Also no one will tell me what i fell isnt real. You hit the nail on the head. Lucky I guess I'm manic depressive so I have some good days. Never know when I'll wake up and the blackness is back. A new car means nothing to me..There are times I want nothing and nothing interests me.
Tired of hearing "oh you're depressed again". Didn't you grow out of it. They think I do this to get attention.
So many theories out there. You're right people are clueless..meds, supplements, amino acids, hormones...We don't even know what causes depression so how can we cure it..
Someone exercises and comes on this board and claims they have found the cure.It just happened to work for you and doesn't mean it will work for me.
Many depressed people exercise and eat well!!!Tired of lectures about eating and exercising..Many of us do it and it doesn't always help..
It's like shooting a shotgun in the dark and hope you hit a duck..That's what we do...Try everything and hope something works..

Yes. Part of the problem with discussing the subject of biogenic depressive disorders is that almost everyone has experienced something that they call "depression". Some people swear that your depression is no different from theirs. Why should it be? You are both using the same word to describe it.
Even here on Psycho-Babble, there is often confusion as to which among the various types of depression one is referring to. I try to make a habit of using the medical terms to be specific as to what kind of depression I am referring to. Depression can be a natural reaction to loss. MDD is an abnormal reaction to just about everything.
1. Major Depressive Disorder - MDD
2. Bipolar Disorder - BPThere are still other depressive pathologies that are more psychogenic than biogenic. The more specific we are at naming our illnesses, disorders, situations, or conditions, the more appropriately we can address them.

Still, it is, for me, a great sadness that so few people, people who think they are close, who want to be close, understand. The aloneness is hard to bear.

We get post like the one you refer to about once every 3 months. you can set your watch by'em.
I personally think such posts shouldn't be allowed on this board because it upsets people who may already be having a bad day. This isn't the place for that kind of speculation.

Part of living with mental illness is living with such rhetoric and dysinformation. We have thusfar done a good job of dealing with its free expression here on Psycho-Babble. We are much stronger than most people can conceive. Despite the fact that many people are upset by them, I am not in favor at this time to filter posts in such a fashion. I think we become stronger and more galvinized with each of these attempts to "help" us.

Not sure what you mean actualy, aside from bad grammer the post was almost all supportive to the people here, exluding some feelings i have towards societys view on it.
Also aside from you,and ummmm phillipa the reposts after all seemed to agree in some way with me.Are you sure your speaking of the same post. Also what part of the post did you find offensive?
Finaly not sure where you got the idea that "post comes around every 3 months" instead im a pretty advid poster whith the overwhelming marority of my posts being positive and attempts to inform.
I re read my post, and aside from grammer i cant imagine what you and phillipa find offensive, offensive enough to post on it.But still on the same note unless i broke anything civil im sure i have the right to post my views on this board, plenty of times a post might have offended me but i dont find any value of posting on it.Well shrugs maybe next time use the add posters post so i they can have some idea what the blah your talking about.

Yes, sadly, I've found this true--really doesn't help my SP when I feel like I've got something to hide. A dear friend (from whom I do not hide all of my depression) was talking about sadness as if it were depression. (She is not depressed!) I felt very alone at that moment. I've asked my pdoc how it is to work with depressed people when he himself has never experienced it. He said in so many words that it has taken him years and years to fathom and empathize with the experience of his patients, and he is still always learning. He agrees--only those who experience true depression know.P.S. I don't know the post being reference either.

sorry, I may have gotten it wrong. I assumed your post was referencing the thread a few threads previous... about meds that are killing us. That's what I was talking about.

Perhaps there should be a separate board for such issues.

I think i need to take a writing course, because my meaning keeps getting lost. I wasn't complaining about suicidal people posting here. I encourage it. This is the one place that you can share that information and I hope people feel safe here.
My problem is with posts about "meds can kill you" and the like on this board. Let's say I was suicidal and perhaps a Pdoc had scripted me a med, then I read here that meds might be bad for my health, real bad - what would I feel about that. I'm not saying "don't criticize meds". But I think that some posts are out of bounds.
Even on the recent thread about "meds can kill" etc., people got hot and words were exchanged. Other people who are in a fragile state of mind don't want to read stuff like that - I'm guessing? Am I wrong about this? Those kinds of threads don't bother me personally, I'm just trying to put myself in the shoes of a suffering person.
I invite any opinions, supporting or against. I respect SLS's opinion about it. I just feel that this board is not just "any old board". I don't know, I just want for this to be a board that people can feel at home in; a living room, not a public lavatory.
SLS can remember a few years ago when Dr Bob didn't censor the board at all. It worked for years, but one time a battle of words got going and many long-time contributers left for good. That's why we have censorship now on the board, even though many folks think it un-necessary.

Neal, I think your idea of limiting some and few of the thread titles has merit. I find those websites that talk about how I am poisoning myself with 'addicting' pmeds too upsetting, alarmist and, I suspect, too scientifically unsound (though I don't quite have the brain to tell) and I have chosen not to read them. I mean, I'm here at Babble because I need medication to function. Free speech is one thing. Can't we just say 'no thanks' every so often? Otherwise, what's to stop some 'psychiatry kills' league from camping out here?
two cents,
Candace

Hi Candace.
> Can't we just say 'no thanks' every so often?
Who do you feel should take on the role of judge?
I guess I am a bit of an idealist who likes to support freedom of speech in most circumstances. I worry when more and more rules are made to limit content rather than those that are in place to support civil phraseology.
Take note that the threads involving what I feel is dysinformation regarding Abilify have reached a point of pause. It is possible that freedom of speech caused this to happen. If it did, then I have good reason to take pride in our entire community to endure such an attack.
Because there are rules in place that prevent people from overgeneralizing and exaggerating, I don't think we really have to worry about an assault by one or many people who would want to promulgate propaganda or dsyinformation.
Unfortunately, it takes only one post to influence some people to behave in a fashion that is to their detriment. I don't know what to do about this.

i wonder about more than that kind of post. sometimes i wonder about stealth marketing and stealth anti-marketing campaigns in regard to certain meds. But I think (and I hope) we all have a built in "buyer beware" in regards to the posts . .
This is the end of the thread.
