hey, I've been thinking about you. Have you ever had a full thyroid panel done? I'm not an expert--someone like maybe Phillipa can tell you what to have tested. I do know to test for anti-bodies. I was always subclinical--so no one wanted to treat me. Well, it turns out I had Hashimoto's disease for, probably, years.
another piece to think about if you already haven't.

Hi Phillipa,
Really, I don't know much about it. I knew something was wrong with my thyroid--every woman in my family suppliments, so I finall got a doc to give me a 'full panel'. (Some docs act like it's a big favor to check off a few extra boxes on their lab test forms!) Well, I'm producing anti-bodies to my own thyroid. Don't you have the same condition? My pdoc recommends that I keep my TSH level (I think that's it) on the low side--around 1 or 1 point something. So I do and has helped my whole being immensely--not cured my depression, bi-polar, anxiety, etc-- but I feel it is a crucial part of my treatment.
I'm curious about your own hashimotos. And the outcomes of your new doc consultation regarding hormones.
(I don't know how to babble or write you directly. Hope answering you this way is alright.)
warm regards,
Candace

It's fine. Let me explain babblemail see my name in blue? Means my babble mail light is on. You would click on my name and a new screen appears and you write what is like an e-mail doesn't show on babble just I see it.
My endo has me now at 2.5 but also 1-2 is what his recommendations are. Hormones. Found out through this anti aging doc here who was an ob-gyn for years and he's written the book "The Youth Effect" by Ronald L Brown MD availble on Amazon I have zero estrogen, progesterone, testosterone. Ans FSH is still above l00 and should have gone down a lot after menopause and didn't so now started the least expensive method the bioidentical creams from a compounding pharmacy about three weeks ago. You can read a bit about it on www.carolinahealthspan.com or even google Stanleys Pharmacy all Charlotte NC and then ask me more. Love Phillipa

Candace also autoimmune disease runs in family. Niece hasimotos, her brother, and Grandmother was diabetic. Mother psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. Others probably same but back then they didn't know. But seems that hasimotos thyroiditis hits a lot of women during peri-menopause which belive it or not can start in 30's for some. Love Phillipa

For candace and Phillipa
Hi Thanks for the note! I have had some work done and although my labs were in the "normal range" they were in the lower end of the normal range. We supplemented with a little bit of cytomel for a while and I felt great at first but then felt all jittery after a week or so (like too much coffee) so I went off. I am thinking now the dose was just too high (started at 12.5 mcg then to 25) Maybe I only need 5 or 10? I also have an immune deficiency (IgG and IgA deficient). Is this related to Hashmitos? I wasn't on an antidpressant at time so there was nothing to augment which in hindsight I am thinking may have been why it didn't work (just my thoughts). Doctor has now tried Buspar (is willing to try anything I want to try including Pristiq but thought this might work mmore quickly). He reviewed all my records (at my request again) and found that the things that have helped in the past included Effexor, Prozac (a very long time ago), Buspar, and Lamictal. So we decided to try Buspar again. The overall findings were that "although I have responded to meds in the past it was short-lived") Given this information, we decided to try something that would have the least amount of withdrawal symptoms when it pooped out..... I am praying that the Buspar works this time. I am thinking maybe adding 5-10 of cytomel might do the trick.... What do you think?

Hi!
I tried cytomel and it made me too jittery in the long run--I would crash and experience intense dysphoria. I forgot how much I took daily. ALSO, and a big also, I was only on this and a low, inneffective dose of lexapro and was not seeing a pdoc. So, I think it has potenial to work as part of a larger regime. Have you searched this site for others who have used cytomel? Maybe start a new thread for cytomel success stories and see who bites.
I am glad you are putting together a treatment. Please let us know how you do.
very best wishes,
Candace

Thanks Candace! I will keep searching! Right now I am seeing a pdoc who has me on Lunesta for sleep, Buspar (new to the plan and supposed to address the anxiety/depression issues or otherwise known as agitated depression) and Vyvanse for the ADHD..... so, if the Buspar can work then adding the cytomel might help out! So far no side effects from the Buspar but we are taking it slow (5 mg at a time) Will keep you posted!

Goggle thyroid and Mary Shoman's site it good. You will be able to piece it together. My dose of cytomel also was 5mcg and the same coffee jitters so went off it also. And do keep us posted and babblemail anytime. I might have some articles on thyroid in folders. Google hasimotos thyroiditis . Love Phillipa

Thank you both so much! I will look into the thyroid bit some more. Took 10 mg of Buspar this AM- felt a little weird (spacy/disconnected) for about an hour or so. But praying it might work.....
This is the end of the thread.
