Does anyone have experience with increasing from 10 to 20 mg lexapro for social and/or generalised anxiety? If so:
1) Did it work?
2) How long did it take to work?
3) Were your side effects increased?
Thanks!

Are you currently on l0mg of lexapro? And still anxious? Have you added a benzo if only temporarily. I personally can't tolerate ad's. That's just me though. Love Phillipa

Phillipa! I can't believe I'm typing to you. You're a legend on these boards. I've read many of your posts over the years.
Yes, I'm on 10mg lexapro. I have tried to increase to 20mg twice before, but both times gave up after two weeks. Felt agitated (for which I took Valium), totally impotent, even more scattered and forgetful. So now psych wants me on 15mg for a few weeks before trying 20mg.
I had a good response to 10mg lexapro for a couple months. Then it pooped out. Then Cymbalta, which was hell. Now back to Lexapro.
Benzos work well but try getting a long term script for one out of the NHS. Not gonna happen, ever. Because they're addictive, which means you have to increase the dosage over time and you can't stop suddenly. Whereas SSRIs like lexapro aren't addictive. You just have to increase the dosage over time and can't stop suddenly. Oh, and SSRIs come with extra features, like suicidal ideation, akathisia, and how about taking sex away from a depressed person? I wonder if this is a ploy to prevent depressed people from breeding.
Fear not though, SSRIs are almost all off-patent, so we'll all be on TRIs in a few years.
Excuse my rant.

It is not true that everyone builds up a tolerance to benzos and has to increase the dose. I have been on the same dose, actually I decreased it by 1mg, for several years. They are terrible to get off. But I think they are a relatively safe med. I mean you know what they are going to do and they do it without a lot of side effects etc. Don't suppose any of that makes any difference to your docs. Too bad.
Good luck with the lexapro. Keep us posted.
Zana
PS I felt the same way the first time Phillipa responded to one of my posts!

No, no and no. Lexapro did nothing for anxiety fro me and in fact made it to where I was jumpy and fearful around people. On the other hand Celexa was great, go figure since Lexapro is supposed to be the "new" Celexa.

Lexapro did wonders for my anxieties
it was my wonder drug
it pooped out on me
i would try for the 15mg
when increasing Lexapro plan to stay busy and not trapped at any boring or tedious events.
