Phillipa! I can't believe I'm typing to you. You're a legend on these boards. I've read many of your posts over the years.
Yes, I'm on 10mg lexapro. I have tried to increase to 20mg twice before, but both times gave up after two weeks. Felt agitated (for which I took Valium), totally impotent, even more scattered and forgetful. So now psych wants me on 15mg for a few weeks before trying 20mg.
I had a good response to 10mg lexapro for a couple months. Then it pooped out. Then Cymbalta, which was hell. Now back to Lexapro.
Benzos work well but try getting a long term script for one out of the NHS. Not gonna happen, ever. Because they're addictive, which means you have to increase the dosage over time and you can't stop suddenly. Whereas SSRIs like lexapro aren't addictive. You just have to increase the dosage over time and can't stop suddenly. Oh, and SSRIs come with extra features, like suicidal ideation, akathisia, and how about taking sex away from a depressed person? I wonder if this is a ploy to prevent depressed people from breeding.
Fear not though, SSRIs are almost all off-patent, so we'll all be on TRIs in a few years.
Excuse my rant.
