My previous doctor, had put me on 30mg Restoril at night for 2 years. And you know what funny...? i stopped it and "nothing", and Temazepam was not really effective at all. Xanax (Alprazolam) is so effective with panic attacks, anxiety, and sleep.
My current doctor just said "Seroquel", temazepam is for severe insomnia. Well...no big deal, exept Seroquel is so dirty in the it makes you feel, it's just going in the trash.
That's funny, but still, he thinks it's best for me. He just say's, well....let's go to a lower dose. The dose...is 0! it does not work at all for sleep, it keeps me up, just stare. You know?? i'll just say, well, since it makes me feel like a dead person, let's just go to Halerpersitol....
Basically Meletonin causes sleep, but if the mind is to active, something like Prosom would be the best.
Estazolam......any imput.
by the way...Alcohol will get you to sleep, "Southern Comfort" but it interput's the sleep process. You wake up feeling horrible. That's a no-no, same thing to seroquel.

Interesting.. for me seroquel is the only AP that doesn't make me feel horrible the next day unless i take too much of it. It doesn't take much to get me to sleep though and i don't feel anything from it when i wake up.. its the wonder sleep drug for me.

That's a little odd -- Restoril is pretty weak, its a metabolite of Valium and I've staid up right through it but then I guess I had a bit more of a tolerance to benzodiazepines (I basically do at this point). Seroquel is much stronger for insomnia.I find Trazodone much "dirtier" and unsettling, being so lightheaded if you get up in the night that you have to lay down or feel nauseated.

Haldol could easily give ome EPS and akathisia which wouldn't make one sleep, although I suppose not so much as other conventional APs

> Estazolam......any imput.Never have taken it but I would say that in the long run for sleep problems benzodiazepines or pseudobenzodiazepines are potentially going to become fairly ineffective. Lunesta is supposedly promoted for more long term use though it too can lose effectiveness I would imagine.

Mm... I wouldn't compare it to Seroquel, I'd say worse than Benadryl, it just leaves you cranky or nauseated, hangovers, etc, the next day and yes, is not conducive to regular sleep.
Doxylamine succinate is better than Benadryl in my opinion (it supposedly is stronger), its one of the two formulas of Unisom (OTC)

Jay valium is weak? Maybe that's why I can cut the doses so easily? Love Jan

No, that's extrapolating, I didn't say that Valium is a weak drug, it has several metabolites, one of which is Restoril. It was just a personal opinion that Restoril isn't a terribly strong sleep medication especially taking it for an extended period of time. But then again, I'm more used to benzodiazepines.
The reason you can cut the doses so easily is probably because you've taken it so long and counter-intuitively you don't have withdrawal or not noticeable amounts, I can't say.
For the benzodiazepine-naive Valium is not a weak agent; it can be given pre-operative and other situations but usually Versed is used which is about the strongest, probably also because there its an IV agent.

Have you ever tried the hypnotic benzo Halcion? Mg for mg it is the strongest benzo around. I find that the conbination of halcion and ambien work great for sleep. I will also combine them with doxylamine succinate and clondine if Im having a really hard time sleeping.

I used to take midazolam, for a while it was great, but afterwards it stopped working (if I didnŽt sleep in the next 30 minutes IŽd stay wide awake and have these food cravings so bad I would get up at 3AM, binge and go back to sleep, sometimes even unaware of it). IŽd rather go on with Xanax than taking this again!

That's extremely dangerous. Yes, I have multiple agents on board that happen to be sleep-inducing for most but I've been used to them and in general I metabolize a number of my medications very fast.
Halcion didn't get its bad reputation for nothing, it just certain people who reacted to it in a strange way though.
Combining it with three more CNS depressants (Ambien, Unisom [doxylamine formulation, stronger than benadryl], and clonidine) is what is known as "stacking".
Unless you're careful and you are under a doctor's order to take more than one, two, even three substances, there's a thing called respiratory depression (lung collapse). And one doesn't ever want to get there. I needn't describe it.
Anyhow, just my 2c

Ir should make you tired? I don't know -- the brain does unpredictable things and you have been on it for several decades or more from what I recall. Withdrawing from that, even though you had a small dose of it, its possible that your brain reacts to it differently now.
Xanax is generally the only benzodiazepine that is slightly energizing, hence why people believe it has an "antidepressant" effect.
It's also possible that your body's ability to metabolize things has changed with age, not to be rude, but that is another possibility. Also it could have nothing to do with it as causality is not causation and may have to do with your thyroid function or other factors instead.

Seconal is the best. Just very toxic for your liver, and overdose level is high.

Forget the liver, yes, most barbiturates are extremely dangerous and highly habit forming and have no antidote like benzodiazepines do.
And the quality of sleep is questionable at best

Two isn't a bottle of 100. No further elaboration on that.
Times were different when barbiturates were still in frequent use as opposed to benzodiazepines.
Today, small amounts are generally confined to the realm of anaesthesia.
Older social health systems like the NHS may still distribute them but they, just like potent TCAs, carry dangers.

It wasn't a part of the thread. It was a dramatization. Pharmacy bottles are commonly distributed in 90 or 100 tablets.
