Relapsing tiredness

Posted by jakeo29 on December 12, 2008, at 19:15:25

Hi guys, the medications appear to be working, however my hypersomnia seems to be winning despite Concerta and Provigil. However, I looked at my blood lab results from the doctor and the only thing that was rather abnormal was my red blood cell count. It was rather low (below the cut-off for normal). However it was not really low. I am not anemic, however, I am wondering if this is a red flag that my diet is causing excessive tiredness and not allowing the medication to work as effectively as they should, exp. the stimulants. I read online that low RBC usually means iron deficiency and doctors often call the condition ironically "tired blood" as it is not carrying the amount of oxygen as required by the body. I bought some complete A-Z multi-vitamins and Super Omega-3 Formula. Any other suggestions as to this anomaly?

sometimes Iron makes me nauseous. Feosol is an iron supplement that is easier on the stomach, if you find that you feel sick after your multi-vitamin.

oh, and if you can spend a few weeks at 10,000' altitude, your body will make more redbloodcells.

you know... just in case you had a few thousand dollars, a sherpa at your beck and call, and a few weeks to spend lying around making rbc's

Not always is low iron to blame. And while not acutely dangerous, excess iron can cuase long-term problems. You need to look at all the numbers and other conditions to to figure out if you have some problem, or it might just be normal variation.

True hemoglobin, hematocrit, platelets, even get B 12 tested as that if supplemented can provide energy but not good to have high iron. Phillipa

Do you donate blood? That would lower your iron and blood cell count. The best way to get your blood cells back up is eating high iron foods.
