When I first started taking Deplin, I received a significant benefit within the first week. The positive response disappeared within a few days, but later reappeared in a robust way after the passage of 6 weeks. I was very happy with the way I was feeling. However, after a few more weeks, I began having vivid dreams - always with violent content. They were very upsetting nightmares. Around this time, I began to receive diminishing returns from Deplin. I decided to discontinue taking it. The vivid dreaming stopped almost immediately. However, I didn't feel like I had lost the quality of my treatment response. Deplin was no longer providing any benefit for me.

No I listened to you as respect your knowledge and doc knew nothing about it just said like a vitamin. Yes read all literature on website. So now you're on parnate or still nardil? Some confusion there. Darn I really thought that Deplin might be the answer. Love Phillipa

Thanks for that update, Deplin was on my list of possible meds to try. Violent dreams are something I can definately do without.

I guess it worked for as long as the clinical studies ran for. You don't find many studies that continue past the 8-12 week mark. Maybe the study saw what I saw initially - a great response. However, were they were to follow their subjects longitudinally beyond 12 weeks, they might have seen a high poop-out rate. I really don't know.

Scott -I too had an initial response to miniscule dosages of Deplin, followed by problems like aggravated depression and increased instability.
I don't think I'd ever try it again.

Scott sounds like antidressants also. Does anyone run longer studies on meds? And is it parnate or nardil? Hope you don't mind me asking. You know something else just popped into my mind if Deplin is the end result of a lot of chemical processes with folate and conversions. What does this say for MVI's, B's, Omega 3's etc. Even Vita C if you're taking a lot a couple thousand mg a day and if you stop you do get brusing are you hate to say the word addicted? And consequently need higher doses. And this would continue up and up on even vitamins there has to be a stopping point. Sorry jibber jabber. Love Phillipa

I tried Deplin. Didn't do a thing for me, and it isn't covered by insurance, so I gave up on it.

Yes, Deplin rocks. It knocked out my pain in 24 hours. It is great stuff. I have taken it for over a year. I take it with Lamictal. I had to cut the Lamictal dose in half though. Deplin increased Lamictals activating qualities greatly. I only wish I had found Deplin earlier. One weird side effect- I have begun to find one contributor to this sight incredibly obnoxious. She posts on nearly every thread often to each specific post, ad nauseum. She knows nothing about anything and seems to think that her feelings of "love" have some relevance on each topic. Inane is the best word to describe it. It fillips a switch in my head. Maybe this symptom is not due to the Deplin. It might be a valid response to insipid over-posting.

IHerb.com sells Solgar branded L-Methylfolate in 800 mcg tablets. Each Deplin tablet contains 7.5 mg of L-Methylfolate so you would need to take about 9 Solgar tablets (9.375 to be exact) to equal one Deplin tablet. At the current price ($15.50 for 100 tablets), this would cost about $1.45 per day.
Some people may do better on less than 7.5 mg /day. The 800 mcg Solgar tablets make it easy to adjust the dosage (and reduce the daily cost).

Another OTC option is FolaPro Highly Absorbable Folate by Metagenics. It contains Metafolin®, AKA L-5-methyl tetrahydrofolate. Each tablet is 800mcg.

I felt moments of clarity at the first but started having violent dreams, which stopped a few days after I stopped taking it.
This is the end of the thread.
