Posted by Jimmyboy on October 29, 2008, at 16:08:34

Does anyone know what effect raising beta endorphins would have on the following:

1. Depresion
2. anxiety - in general, panic attack and social anxiety

3. Libido

thanks

Does beta endorphin give you the feeling of having exercised?

Rather than the pain relief?

That's what I heard.

Rhodiola increases levels of beta endorphin.

Is it the same as when you exercise? Because my pdoc is always asking me to exercise. Especially for the GAD.

Endorphins impact the body and nervous system dramatically. To see what I mean, go to lowdosenaltrexone.org. Some of the dramatic results include improvements or remissions of MS, chrons disease, cancers, infections, hashimotos, sensitivities, chronic fatigue, pain, autism, and improvement of mood and anxiety.

The only pharmaceutical way I am aware of to significantly increase endorphin levels is low dose natltexone, 3mg to 4.5mg between 9pm and midnight.

I am starting to think endorphins might be the missing link in treatment resistant depression. All the focus on serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine...all with frustrating results. The underlying cause of the depression is likely something else that endorphins impact directly.

I have been saying for months how I am convinced all the biological systems of the body are tied together. They are not separate entities. That is, one cannot have one impacted without impacting the others. I'm referring to the interlinkage between the brain, nervous system, hormones, digestive system, and immune system. There is one thing that ties them all together and keeps things running the way they were designed to. Endorphins. If endorphins are low, well, all the neurotransmitters in the world probably won't do much except numb the person out and/or give them side effects on top of their existing symptoms.

Bleauberry ,

You may or may not have seen my previous posts over the last couple of weeks, but I started LDN about 2 weeks ago and have been thrilled with the results I have been getting. I have also tried about every prescription AD out there over the course of 12 years and they generally made me feel a hundred times worse.

Last fall, during ANOTHER cycle of depression I found Borage Oil, which really helped pull me out of the pit. It worked pretty steadily, but also made me pretty flat and just blah . Although this was a huge improvement on the horrible depression I had previously had, I read about LDN and started it a couple of weeks ago.

I started on 4.5 mg, which was probably too much and adjusted it down to 3 mg/night. I felt better immediately. Wake up full of energy, I feel focused and clear headed and motivated. Calm mood, anxiety is less and I am slowly starting to feel more relaxed in social situations and am actually starting to seek out interaction with others.

So I totally agree with you. I think endorphins could be a very overlooked piece of the puzzle in the treatment of depression for many.

LDN has virtually no side effects and is so benign, I think its a no brainer for people to look into this before they try ANOTHER SSRI that has so many horrible side effects.

LDN = Low Dose Naltrexone.

Which is less than 4.5 mg taken at night before bedtime. (10pm-1am)

HGH also increases levels of beta endorphins.
