Pristiq Mistique...

Posted by RXRICK on October 29, 2008, at 8:30:16

Has anyone here tried Pristiq yet? Furthermore, has anyonw who has been on Effexor XR tried Pristiq? Pristiq is supposed to be the more 'pure' form of Effexor, so I'm wondering if there are less side effects associated with this drug as compared to Effexor. With Effexor XR, I had uncontrollable sweating, even in the coldest part of winter. I also had severe headaches at higher doses, and my personal favorite, weight gain. Oh, did I forget to mention erectile disfuntion? Not good for relationships. I currently take Wellbutrin XL and Lamictal and I've had subtle results, but I think I could do better. It's so disappointing to me that there hasn't been anything new over the past decade or two that could really help. I would consider myself someone with refractory depression, and as you can imagine, it's very frustrating.

I've taken Effexor and Pristiq and they both caused the same level of sexual dysfunction for me.

im taking pristiq, and i've actually noticed an increase in libido. (female btw)
i was on effexor YEARS ago and don't remember if it caused any sexual side effects for me.
i did however have TONS of other VERY negative SE from effexor. its probably the worst AD i've been on. rapid cycled extremes, awful tired first month...went on drinking binges, etc.

now with pristiq the only negative things are it did take forever for it to kick in for me..i'd say 5-6 weeks.
and i notice more hair than normal coming out in my brush in the mornings.
BUT its working.

it seems like a "softer" version of effexor.

best wishes

Pristiq is desvenlafaxine, the active metabolite of Effexor (venlafaxine). There is some variation in how people metabolize venlafaxine to desvenlafaxine. This variation is not an issue with Pristiq. So theoretically you might do better on Pristiq than Effexor.

What dose of Lamictal and Wellbutrin are you taking?

I am taking 100 mg of pristiq, I took effexor for about 5 years before it lost its punch.

I have noticed a little loss of libo, and I too have notice more hair in my brush. That must be from the pristiq.

BTW is anyone else on 100 mg or more of pristiq?

Thanks

i was on 100 of pristiq.
but i wanted to try to go back down after i stabilized...took about 5-6 weeks for it to really kick in for me.
although i am taking 100 this week [ (girly part) due to my period,(tmi i know) but my depression gets worse right before i start] i have titrated back down to 50. we'll see how it goes.

I'm currently taking 150mg Wellbutrin XL and was thinking about adding Lamictal, actually have a bottle of 25mg pills on hand. How much Lamictal do you take and do you take it morning or night. Do they mix well together?

For B2chica, did it take 5-6 weeks on 100 mg, or just in general. Because I have been on 50 mg for about 2 months and just a week ago went up to 100mg.

Depending on your current symptoms, you could consider increasing your dosage of Wellbutrin XL before adding an additional agent.

i was about same as you. i was on it two weeks and my depression was getting terrible so he upped me to 100mg because i was starting to get suicidal thoughts. then stayed at 100 for about 31/2 weeks. i literally just went back down to 50 and the same day i started to feel really good. don't know if there was a correlation or not with the dosage change. i just figured that the med just then started to kick in. i've been on 50 since then and been doing ok.

when i first went up to 100 i started to feel a little numb, that's why we decided to try going back down to 50.

let me know how you feel on 100.

Any other males that had bad sexual side effects with Effexor (including ED) not have these with Pristiq?

Thursday will be 2 weeks on 100 mg of pristiq and I feel anxious and a little down. I would think it would have helped by now! Maybe I need to still wait a little while longer.

like i mentioned it took me about 5 1/2 weeks for it to kick in for me. and my T told me some of her other clients on it took around 5-6 weeks before they noticed anything.

so that's what i would suspect for you too.
just keep a close eye on yourself. if you can hold out, i think it was worth it for me but d@mn that waiting period was terrible.

so just weigh it out if you want to stick it out for that long or not.

best of luck to you
