I am currently on 300mg effexor for 1 week. I realize it can be 3-7 more weeks before it works, if it does. My doc gave me dexedrine to keep me stABLE DURING THE PROCESS, BUT IT DOESN'T WORK. The thing that works best are either Vicodin or Percocet, but obviously my doc won't give me these drugs. I don't know if I will be able to stand this pain much longer. Does anyone know of another drug that might help alleviate this intolerable mental anguish?

Also, I have heard of a synthetic narcotic that is used in depression cases. I forgot the name of it, has anyone heard of it or tried it?

Below is a report using Lithium to augment venflaxine 300mg. While this is not without risk of serotonin syndrome, you could discuss the option with your doctor. Lithium generally has a rapid onset of action.
Eur Psychiatry. 2003 Oct;18(6):314-7.
Lithium augmentation in venlafaxine non-responders: an open study.
Bertschy G, Ragama-Pardos E, Aït-Ameur A, Muscionico M, Favre S, Roth L.
Clinic of Adult Psychiatry, Department of Psychiatry, Geneva University, 2 ch. du Petit Bel-Air, Chene-Bourg, 1225 Geneva, Switzerland. gilles.bertschy@hcuge.ch
Thirteen major depressive patients not responding to a 4-week venlafaxine 300 mg treatment were eligible for a 4-week open trial of lithium addition. Two patients had to stop lithium for a possible moderate serotonin syndrome and five patients became responders, including one dramatic response and two semi-rapid responses.

Hi and thanks,
I don't want to take anything else, its only been 1 week since I have been on 300mg effexor and 150mg wellbutrin. I just want something to ease the pain UNTIL the drugs work.
Joe
