Below is a report using Lithium to augment venflaxine 300mg. While this is not without risk of serotonin syndrome, you could discuss the option with your doctor. Lithium generally has a rapid onset of action.

Lithium augmentation in venlafaxine non-responders: an open study.

Thirteen major depressive patients not responding to a 4-week venlafaxine 300 mg treatment were eligible for a 4-week open trial of lithium addition. Two patients had to stop lithium for a possible moderate serotonin syndrome and five patients became responders, including one dramatic response and two semi-rapid responses.
> I am currently on 300mg effexor for 1 week. I realize it can be 3-7 more weeks before it works, if it does. My doc gave me dexedrine to keep me stABLE DURING THE PROCESS, BUT IT DOESN'T WORK. The thing that works best are either Vicodin or Percocet, but obviously my doc won't give me these drugs. I don't know if I will be able to stand this pain much longer. Does anyone know of another drug that might help alleviate this intolerable mental anguish?
