I got a wonderful surprise at the pharmacy a couple of days ago.....adult doses of Lamictal have gone generic (As of July 23, 2008)!!! My $50 co-pay for Lamictal 200mg was reduced to only $10! Score!
Interestingly, the day before I went to the pharmacy, the kind people at GlaxoSmithKline were nice enough to send me a card which I could use 6 times for a $25 discount on each fill. I was so excited. Thanks a freakin' lot, GSK, for sending me an unusable card!!!! Jerk-off's.
By the way, if you take any non-generic medications, be sure to go to the website for that med and check for coupons. Previously, GSK had sent me 10 coupons for $10 each for Lamictal. Note that I had to go through the epilepsy-specific Lamictal site, as the coupons weren't available on the bipolar-specific website. I cry discrimination!!!!!!
Back on topic, has anyone tried this generic Lamictal yet (it's made by Teva)? I've only taken it a few days, but so far I can't tell any difference from the brand name.
Thanks in advance for your contributions!

Pardon my US-centric views! I forgot to mention that I am in the USA....Lamictal has been available in a generic form in other countries for years. =)

Oh wonder if the generic would eliminate the salivation I had on 50 of the namebrand. Thank's for the info and good luck to you. Phillipa

If you had a direct side effect like that to a medication, a generic is a direct copy of the medication to FDA specifications, minus any binders.
Thus, unless your body chemistry has changed, you may have the exact same effect unfortunately

>Yes, I am on lamotrigine and I guess you have found that it is made by Teva. They are a large Israeli pharmaceutical company and also produce novel compounds as well.
The pale orange-pink diamond is a curious change to the blue shield that I was used to.
If you bother to read the blather on Drugs@FDA, I think there was some lawsuit as usual by GSK, which is typical, but it had expired -- challenge suits always appear.
It looks like about 5 or so other companies have tentative AB (generic equivalent) approval after Teva's 180 day exclusive rights.

The name brand Lamictal I take is exactly the same color as my generic, because I take the 200mg tablets. They are both light blue.
