So as I got off effexor and switched to stablon, my newest side effect is it takes about 4 or 5 hours to fall asleep. My sex drive and fatigue during the day have gone away, so I can put up with this new side effect. But the insomnia spells are getting annoying. Any suggestions? I tried melatonin back when on effexor, but it messed with my mood, like it was conflicting with the med, so I am weary to try it again...

Have you tried any herbal supplements such as valerian root, chamomile tea, or kava kava?
OTC Benadryl, Tylenol PM or Advil PM might help too.
Good luck.
* p.s. Unless you have a melatonin deficiency, supplementing w/ melatonin won't help; it might even be harmful in the long-term. Doesn't work for me as a sleep-aid.

If you want, you could ask your doctor for some Lunesta to see if it works for you.
I highly recommend it. It's the only thing that has worked long term for my insomnia (which is bad--without meds I can go four or five days without sleeping). I have been on it for a year, and the only time it did not work was when I first went on Wellbutrin, which causes very bad insomnia.
This is the end of the thread.
