Librium was the first benzodiazepine discovered in the 1950s (chlordiazepoxide).
Valium (diazepam) came in 1963 - a family favourite. Likely what the Rolling Stones sang about in their song "Mother's Little Helper"
Mogadon = Nitrazepam, another stronger benzo mainly for insomnia. When I told my sleep doc I was taking them he said "You might as well be taking a general anaesthetic..!" Hence not recommended for "quality sleep"... :)

My local library actually had a video made by his daughters & friends shortly after his death - a kind of a tribute & to counter some local gossip or something. His parents did move to Woy Woy and I think his younger brother lives there. Quite a warm & entertaining movie, bits of comedy and a lot of his family & colleagues talking about him. Very moving if you're a fan. Check your library..!
Oh yeah sorry, the title was "I told You I Was Ill"... ;)
OK I have to do this now - I just love his quote about project management. He says "...Well, we haven't got a plan. So nothing can go wrong!"... ;)

Hmm. That third one may be exactly what I need.
General anesthesia every night had occurred to me, but I doubt my pdoc would go along.

Yes, benzodiazepines for good or worse, generally replacing more harmful quaaludes and barbiturates and other agents around the time were developed by Leo Sternbach, a Holocaust period escapee who recently passed away at 97 (was still active at 95).
Librium came from the lab in 1956 and is still used for alcohol detoxification. It is a very weak benzodiazepine. Valium greatly increased the effectiveness of a benzodiazepine, and others followed, Xanax being the last around 1981. There has been more than 50 years of medical knowledge of benzodiazepines and that also is generally probably a reason, besides no further economic status of any truly (not Xanax XR) novel agents, why they are dispensed generic where available worldwide.Mogadon is not available in the US.
This is the end of the thread.
