80mg daily? Wow, that's alot. I don't know what you should expect, but i tried 60mg once and felt sedated instead of nervous.

hi happyflower--
what was your previous dose? my experience with prozac is that it's very activating, and when i start or increase the dose, i get agitated. the highest dose i've been on is 60mg, and my pdoc ramped it up from 20mg in as many weeks. i ended up very manic. just to be safe, i would probably go slow on increasing...

Hi Carebear,
Well at first I was on it for PMPD, 20mg a day, taken 2 weeks before period. Then I went to 40mg a day every day. This has been my dose for 3 weeks, there was some improvement, but not as well as it should be. So now he wants to do 40, 2X a day =80
At first he wanted to just add Welbutrin to the Prozac, but then he decided to increase the Prozac only instead. Then we can add the other if this doesn't work. I see him again in 3 weeks. He said I should notice a difference in one week, not the full effect, but it should start helping by then.
I just don't hate being on meds anyways, but you have to do what you have to do.

I kinda wish I was more sedated because the Prozac keeps me awake at night. But it is helping some that I take the 2nd dose earlier now.
I guess I will see what happened. Maybe I wanted too long until my depression got too bad or something. Who knows?

I hope you are right. What I was feeling the first week was the placebo effect or it could be I went from being tired and depressed to depressed and awake. I am not sure which is worse. At least when you sleep you seem like you are doing something productive instead of looking up at the ceiling all day wishing you could sleep because you don't want to do anything else.

Why does your doc have you on a split dose? One of the perks of prozac is that it has a long half life, i.e. it stays in your bloodstream a long time. Spilt does are good for things like Ritalin which has a short half life and so you need to take it often to keep your blood levels up. You shouldn't have to do that with prozac.
That said, I wanted to share my experiences on prozac. I took up to 50 or 60 mg at one point. It actually turned out that higher doses made me more depressed. My pdoc said that can happen sometimes with prozac. I don't know how common that is, but it is something to be aware of.
I know that some people like to combine prozac with welbutrin. It gives it an extra kick and WB offsets some of the side effects of prozac.
I hope something in there is helpful. Good luck!
Best,
EE
