Low dose Geodon for depression?

My Doc mentioned that low dose Geodon can be energizing and helpful for depression and anxiety disorders. Anyone find this to be true?

I tried it @ 20 mg a few years ago. It did wonders for me (both for depression and social anxiety). Unfortunately, my pdoc decided if a little bit was good, a lot should be better. At 120 mg I wound up with severe akathisia and a frightening inability to stay awake while driving. I tried going back down to 20 mg but it never worked again. I think there may be something to it, though, for the right person.

I know someone for whom Geodon comes very close to being a miracle adjunct to her other drugs. She is doing quite well at 40mg.

She also takes Wellbutrin and Lexapro.

I found it to be antidepresing. It did not help with schitzo stuff. I started hearing voices when I was on it. That had not happened for 10 years while on the zyprexa. It didn't realy do anything for anxiety with me.

low dose for TD

you should be on 40 mg, to see if you develop tics, if you do quit it immediatelly

Not all people get movement disorders from atypicals.. in fact its only 5% and can be much less.

Unfortunately I am sensitive to them and high dose Seroquel produced a tic disorder. But a tic disorder is not tardive, not often. It gets worse with psychological stimulation and obsessing about the tic to the point where it becomes entirely psychological. I still take Seroquel because while I am not psychotic, I have a unique disorder that it helps organize my thoughts and maintain stabilization.

I'm not saying that this neurological study and report is what you have, but its worth really separating what is and isn't TD.

I don't like to have to take it, but for the time being, its a catch 22. I want to do the things in life that gain confidence and I want to be as much on par with life as I can and not listen to the negative side which really does pull me down.

I hope you improve -- if it is tardive, it can improve over time but that can take quite a while.

Best wishes

-- J
