globus hystericus

Posted by llurpsienoodle on April 5, 2008, at 14:48:34

The lump in my throat. I had it a year ago when I was on 300mg of seroquel. It went away as soon as I switched to geodon.

At the time, I was taking 300mg seroquel and 120mg cymbalta.

Now the globus hystericus is back. I just added wellbutrin (150mg SR) in the am, and by mid/late afternoon my lump feels prominent.

My lump
My lump
My lovely llurpsie lump.

no seriously- could it be a dopaminergic thing? I was reading that dopamine in the synaptic cleft increases as a function of wellbutrin dosage.

Last time I had this pdoc recommended that I try a 50mg dose of benedryl and see if that resolved the lump. If it didn't (he said) then it wasn't a dopaminergic thang.

other than THAT! feeling great. almost hyperhappy, but not too much.

I hope you're ok Li and I hope you can appreciate this story.

I had a friend years ago that used to get globus hystericus every time she smoked pot. I could never figure out why she kept smoking it. She used that term (which I haven't heard in years) and it used to make me scream with laughter. I'm not making any fun of your situation and I really hope you're ok, but that word just makes me laugh out loud. It just such a bizarre expression. She leap off the chair with an extremely serious expression on her face and announce to everyone, I have really bad globus hystericus, what am I going to do, and either strike an angst ridden pose from a 50's movie or flee from the room. I wanted to get her some big sun glasses, a scarf and a cigarette holder. She always loved a touch of drama back then. I'd just look at her and say when are you going to finally stop smoking that stuff. Now she work in the film industry, LOL

DISCLAIMER, I can't sleep, it's just gone 6am, sorry for the anecdote, but it's too late to take anything because I have to work today. I hope you enjoyed that one Li and it helped to take your mind of things, even for a moment. C

Benadryl for dopagenic effects? He thought it was psychosomatic and was just screwing with you. If you're on that much anti psychotics dopamine is not a worry.

I cant say i've heard of this effect and it could be norepinephrine based but your doctor probably nailed it as being psychosomatic/anxiety.(wellbutrins stimulatory effects will cause anxiety)

Lurpsienoodle doodle I agree with above poster and seroquel has antihystamine properties same as benydryl. Anything making you anxious? Didn't you just stop your klonopin? Maybe try adding some back. Just a thought Love Phillipa

Cactii,
you made me laugh :)

sometimes I get silly like that too, but have never smoked up.

I guess it is "in my head" or in my uterus or wherever Freud wanted it to be.

Poor men, what excuse do you guys have for being neurotic, not having a uterus and all that?

I always use the "Rick James Excuse": Trileptal is a helluva drug!

I suspect it's more adrenergic (Wellbutrin is a noradrenaline reuptake inhibitor too, like Cymbalta). Could it be related to changes in secretions of the throat?
