Remeron experience needed

Posted by hansi555 on April 4, 2008, at 13:40:03

Hi
I am into week no. 13 on Remeron. It started as stress in november 2007, then followed 6 weeks of various symptoms such as dizziness, headache, nausea etc.
Then one REALLY bad nightmare around Christmas and then followed a major insomnia problem where I could not sleep at all. I also had a minimum of appetite.
Here is how it has been so far:
week 0-2: slept and ate normally again, dosage 30 mg
week 3-5: suddenly crying attacks, felt really depressed. dosage 45 mg, sleep problems again, had to take ½ sleeping pills too
week 6-8: getting slowly better, having really good days here and there. dosage 52,5 mg
week 9-10: felt constantly great all the time, ate very much. dosage 50-52,5 mg
week 11-13: started to sleep without sleeping pills again, but now mood swings, generally down in the mornings, slowly better after lunch and then good mood at evenings. dosage 50 up to 55 mg since 6 days ago.
So when sleep came back, mood swings started again, strange ehh?

Is this the "nature" of a depression? I cannot understand that things are going "the wrong way" this long into the treatment.
Should I try and split the dosage into 45 mg in the evening and 15 mg in the morning? It is very difficult for me to get up in the morning after 55 mg in the evening.
I relly would like to avoid getting another drug into my treatment.

All my stress factors are long gone, had a period of not working for 3 months (end nov -> feb), I now work 4-5 hours a day (succesfully), go to both relaxing therapy and a psychologist (and a psychiatrist). I do exercise 2-3 times a week.

What do you think? Experience from others would be highly appreciated, thanks

Well, i'm not an MD. but it sounds like Atypical Depression to me. Feel bad in the mornings, and better in the afternoon and night..I have this same condition. I have been on and off remeron for 10 years, it's an excellent AD in my opinion. Now for me adding Lithium has made a world of difference, and no i am not bipolar. Lithium works as an augmentation agent, making the remeron work better, and 'stabilizing' your mood.
I know you don't want to add a bunch of meds, but i am just telling you what is working for me, i am on 60mgs. of remeron, and 300 mgs of lithium bid. And my mornings are MUCH better now. God bless.

I see you're new to babble would like to welcome you. And advise above is good in my opinion. I once tried l5mg of remeron for sleep but after a month didn't make me tired at all and also was on benzos so I went off. Good luck to you and hope you get lots of responses. Phillipa

Well, after reading about Lithium and the side effects, I think I will try a dosage split first.
I dont consider myself to be bipolar either, but this about having bad mornings is not a constant thing really, this is just how it hs been for some days now. Earlier I also have had very good mornings and whole days.
I still hope to hear other advices as well, espeially regarding dosage splits fro remeron, thanks!
