Hello
I suffer from Schizophrenia and have done for the past four or so years, although I was only diagnosed about a year or so ago. I have tried 5 different antipsychotics and am now on 700mg Clozapine daily. However, I am SO TIRED all the time, I'm like sleepwalking through life. So my doc has decreased my Clozapine to 600mg and will hopefully decrease it further, and substitute it with Amisulpride. I'm quite excited about this as it will hopefully give me some energy and make me less sedated, which would be great!!
Anyone else on this med? I would love to know how it has or hasn't helped you! Thanks
Hugs
Katie xx

Hey Katie! I've been wondering about you. I hope the Amisulpride helps you. I was on it and it made me drowsy, but maybe it's better than clozapine. Clozapine is heavy duty.

>At the low doses I've used (up to 100 mg), it's more stimulating than sedative, but a lot more may be required to replace 700 mg of clozapine.

Hi,
been dx'd w/ skits over 2 years ago. was on risp for a year and a half then changed to abilify. been on it for about 9 months. feeling quite well not as tired when i was on risp. also was on zoloft for at the same time w/ risp then changed to lexapro. pdoc took me off the lex about a month ago since i asked if i could stop. took it 2 days ago again just for that night since i was getting nausea symptoms. i guessed that was my withdrawal from lex. but yeah hopefully you'll have better results w/ Amisulpride. if not try abilify. again works for some not for all. i figure u already know that by now.
take care,
nfc

I'm currently taking amisulpride 50mg for depression/anhedonia, and it is certainly lesss sedating than the other antipsychotics I've taken. I think Clozapine is supposed to be the most sedating. I don't think amisulpride has much (if any?) H1 antagonism compared to the others, and in addittion at low doses it tends to have an activating effect. Although it does sometimes make me feel a little sleepy for an hour or so after a dose, it's nothing like the leaden sedation you get with drugs like Zyprexa or Seroquel. It sometimes makes me a little jittery.
You'd probably need to take higher doses than 50mg to control the positive symptoms of schizophrenia though. Has the pdoc suggested a dose? I was transferred from 10mg Zyprexa to 200mg amisulpride when I was being treated for psychosis in hospital, but that is still a relatively low dose. I'm not sure why the pdoc didn't give me at least 300mg. Maybe he was just playing devil's advocate to see if I relapsed? Anyway, even at 200mg I didn't feel tired or sedated like with other APs. I hope this works out for you.
