I'm a long-time user of Nardil for depression and I love it -- but I'm at the end of my rope. My sleep cycle is completely out of whack. I stay up until 3 am and then go to work on 4 hours sleep and feel horrible all day. Then I do it all over again the next night.
I was never this way before I started with Nardil. I currently take either Ambien or Trazadone to sleep, but the problem is not staying asleep, but never feeling tired when I should (ie, late at night).
Any suggestions so I can get my life back?

Hi David,
If your histamine receptors are like mine, Seroquel will put you down for seven or eight hours. I usually take it a half hour before I want to go to sleep. I've been on it about a year and I'm still on 25mg. I have taken 50mg a few times. I also have severe social anxiety to go along with my atypical depression, so I take 2mg of clonazepam to augment my 90mg of Nardil. I plan to start cutting down slowly on the benzo as soon as this period of intense stress is over. Hope your sleep improves. I believe we have to get good sleep to recover from depression.
Take care,
Jedi

I take Nardil and 2 mg of Lunesta, along with a melatonin. Those really help.
I am new to Nardil, 15 days, just went from 45mg to 60 mg.
Any idea or suggestions as to when I should begin to notice a change?
Thanks,

I'm sorry I can't help much. I am new to Nardil, only seven days. So far Trazadone works great for me. But I was taking it before I started the Nardil. I am not having the side effect you describe but I understand how frustrating it must be.
Have you tried taking your sleep med about half an hour before you want to go to bed? And then go to bed whether you feel like it or not and trusting that it will work? Have you considering increasing your sleep med?
Just some thoughts.

My problem is not getting TO sleep, it is feeling like my body never WANTS to go to sleep.
Nardil apparently overrides my natural sleep cycle. I could easily stay awake for 20 hours straight and not feel tired and then crash for 5 hours and do it again. Unfortunately, the rest of the world does not live on this bizarre schedule.

why do you feel horrible - do you feel tired?

Yes, I am exhausted during the day. And I get sick often, probably because my lack of sleep has weakened my immune system.

That sounds terrible - what about just lying in bed for a few more hours. I always find that is quite a good sleep substitute.
