Does seroquel have anti-depressant effects?

Posted by twinch42085 on September 27, 2007, at 23:02:25

I was looking at the seroquel website and found out that it can be used for depression. Has anyone found this to be credited information? I take 200mg of lamictal and thought that since I have started seroquel that if would be a good augmentor with the lamictal.

thanks : )

The only way it worked for depression for me is because it caused so much anxiety/akathisia that I couldn't think of anything else. That said, the first night was wonderful because it felt as if my brain was taking a bath. That was one wild, cool feeling althought for only one night did it last.

Yes, and no. According to wikipedia, Zenica is trying studies for depression?

I think this is a waste of time. Seroquel may have some mood elevating effects, but it is still an antipsychotic.

I think one of its metabolites is a NRI, with less afinity for dopamine receptors.

I don't personally think it is an ideal antidepressant for many people and should probably be reserved for mood problems in bipolar or schizophrenia.

To use it at antidepressant doses, you are risking TD/EPS/diabeties/cataracts/heart rhythem irregularities that one shouldn't need to risk with an AD.

IMHO.

Aprroving this drug for depression would be a step back in safe pharmachology IMO.
