Can you become tolerant to a atypical antipsychotic? Like a benzo? I don't know. Love Phillipa ps maybe you need a dose adjustment?

Thats why I'm taking 15mg zyprexa now, instead of the 10mg I took the last 10 years. Just all of a sudden the 10mg was not enough when I got off the abilify, now I need 15 for same effect. This was not the case before the abilify. I had tried 15mg before abilify and it just put me to sleep and slowed me down too much.

Zyprexa causes D2 upregulation, just like the older antipsychotics (it just doesn't cause TD or EPS as often). So, I imagine that over the long-term, you might end up needing more of the med to keep up with the upregulation. I seem to recall reading that for some patients adding in an anti-epileptic drug helped with this sort of thing.
Abilify doesn't seem to cause nearly as much upregulation as other antipsychotics, probably b/c of its partial agonist action. So..I'd think that you're needing more b/c of long-term zyprexa use and resulting upregulation, not the abilify, but...who knows.
Have you talked to your doc about your concerns? S/he might be able to add something or switch meds around so you don't need to up your dose.

Med so the atypical antipsychotics have accomplished nothing if a benzo is being used for anxiety and you get tolerance trend being the atypicals you accomplish nothing tolerance too? Love Phillipa

Just opened a new bottle of zyprexa and a new one of citalopram HBr, and, The strength has gone back to normal, I think. So, gone back to one 10mg zyprexa and 60mg citalopram, and guess what, the strength seems stronger than the higher doses of the last batches. I think I was scamed on the last 3 months worth. Pardon my French... So, yaa!!. Seemed odd that it would be all of a sudden for the last 3 months.

Zyprexa!!

There was counterfeit Zyprexa, with a lower dose of olanzapine found in the UK supply chain. the batches were recalled, the batch numbers are on the website www.pharmj.com

yeah, from what I understand, the atypicals can cause D2 upregulation and occasionally cause "supersensitivity psyhosis" as a result, where the increased desnity of D2 makes pre-existing psychosis worse upon withdrawal of the drugs (or even during ongoing treatment sometimes). Also...people who have never before been psychotic can be made psychotic through sensitization, so its kind of disturbing that non-psychotic depression, bipolar, etc. is being treated routinely with atypicals.
Personally, I think using any neuroleptic for anxiety is a bad call. Benzos are safe, and with proper monitoring even people with substance abuse histories can use them, even for extended periods of time.
