Zyprexa causes D2 upregulation, just like the older antipsychotics (it just doesn't cause TD or EPS as often). So, I imagine that over the long-term, you might end up needing more of the med to keep up with the upregulation. I seem to recall reading that for some patients adding in an anti-epileptic drug helped with this sort of thing.
Abilify doesn't seem to cause nearly as much upregulation as other antipsychotics, probably b/c of its partial agonist action. So..I'd think that you're needing more b/c of long-term zyprexa use and resulting upregulation, not the abilify, but...who knows.
Have you talked to your doc about your concerns? S/he might be able to add something or switch meds around so you don't need to up your dose.
