Help-On new drug for my anxiety/depression/fatigue

Posted by Towervu on June 21, 2007, at 18:19:49

Please take the time to read this and give me your advice if you can. I have had anxiety, some OCD, definately OCPD, since childhood. As I've aged, depression and extreme tiredness seem to be more the problem. I went thru law school and was in a high stress job for 10 years and burnt-out so bad I had to have ECT 18 mos ago. Now I've been on Cymbalta 60 mgs, Buspar 60mg, Klonopin 1 mg, and Trazadone 50 mg. Although the horrible anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts are mainly gone, fatigue and lethargy are killing me. A naturopath has used a saliva test and says my adrenal output is one of the lowest he's seen. But my endrocrinologist thinks I'm "almost in the normal zone" under his standard test. My Psychiatrist has started Abilify 15 mg along with my Cymbalta IN THE MORNING?!, and the fatigue has been worse, and it has been 6 days. Here are my questions and sorry this is so long:
1. Could the abilify make me more tired because it is taken in the morning, or because we started at 15 mg? (I also was taking the Cymbalta at night so that is a change too, plus we stopped Buspar).
2. Anyone dealt with adrenal fatigue and know how it can relate or cause depression.
3. Any other drug recommendations for lethargy, apathy, low motivation, fatigue?
Thank you, and God does bless!

I would tend to believe the regular doctor over the naturalpath for the cortisol test (especially if the naturalpath knew your patrticular compaints and symptoms before he took the test).

It sounds like you're getting lethargy from the antidepressants+antipsychotic (abilify). If I were you...I'd up the Klonopin, ditch the antipsychotic, maybe get rid of the trazadone, and see about adding Provigil or using wellbutrin for energy.

Good luck.

I had the same problem with abilify. I slept less and felt less rested altogether. It only got worse over 5 months. And yes the higher the dose, worse.

I take wellbutrin sr(generic) for energy, with the zyprexa, and this works much better.

According to the searches I did in reguards to myself in adreanal fatigue. Two are accurate. The saliva 24hour test and a blood test where a sample is taken and 8 hours another taken. Google too. Love Phillipa ps think saliva most accurate.

Klonapin has a long half life and turned me into a zombie real fast when I took it to help me sleep.

I am taking abilify to try to help my low motivation. I have a re-occurent problem with fatigue but am doing ok at the moment. Cymbalta (did you just start this one too?) Made me alternately sleepy and hyper. Sleepy at first, hyper for a bit then lethargic with weight gain at the end of it. I took it for almost a year.

I am taking 3 mg of abilify and had just a touch of dopy-ness for the first few days. I have been taking it in the morning but it seems as though I'm draggy during the day and wide awake at bedtime (as you can see) so tonight I am trying to switch to taking it at night and see if this will result in my energy being up in the daytime.

I have only been on it for a little over a week. I am also taking Emsam 8 weeks(great for depression adn good for fatigue) and Namenda for almost a month also seems to help with mood and motivation as well as anxiety.

The lethergy is awful, I know. I am just now clearing a 5 year bout with it. I took Lyrica for a while and I think it really helped me sleep well and to get over the fatigue. It also tried to make me fat!

Hope these details help in some way.

Peace,
Kaye
