I would think lexepro is better for anxiety, i dont know much, a lady i work with takes Luvox but she is like so up and peppy, thats just her personality. Luvox i know can be sedating.
Phillipa are you looking for anything for anxiety? thats an antidepressant. Well one thing, paxil but i really have heard people going crazy on it, not from a source just what i have read.
Prozac definely would not be the one. I take Prozac to get me out of the dumps, it does but it can cause anxiety. I like the peppyness it gives me. Not as like a pill to pep up, but just it i can feel the depression numbed out, Prozac is good for me.
Never try Wellbutrin, that will put you in ER. Well i just rerember with me and axiety it was horrible.
This is a dumb suggestion but is there any way you can take Buspar? with your SSRI? i have heard that it works, but i have then heard that people have said that it sucks and doesnt work at all.
I found some source on it.

Someone in my family i belive takes lexapro.
But i have heard also that Lexapro is sedating, same as luvox

What exactly do you mean by 'sedating' PJ? None of the SSRIs are 'sedating' in the same way that a benzo or sleeping drug is sedating. SSRIs do sometimes cause drowsiness, fatigue and apathy however. Lexapro may be less likely to cause drowsiness and fatigue that Luvox. The main problem with Lexapro is that it is overpriced. I generally recommend the SSRIs which are available as generics, such as citalopram (Celexa).

Lex was sedating for me..was good for anxiety..but now I'm off it I realize how apathetic I was too..but I still think it's a good med..it just pooped out on me, as they all do after a year or two..mild to no side effects going on it, which was good for me too..good luck Philippa!!

I loved lexapro. I never should have gone off it. I didn't have any side effects, which is rare for me (my post below). It did take 3 months to work for me though, but when it did it was like a miracle.

And I keep hearing that from posters and people in real life hence my desire to try it starting at very low doses which the pdocs now do here. Celexa I tried and it was horrible couldn't even get around was so tired. Love Phillipa

Celexa didn't agree with me either. I think I started out on 10 mgs of lexapro, but you can break that in half and try 5. I hope it works for you.

I've had some clients who have found it sedating, but it really varies.

Phillipa,
Lexapro worked wonders for me, but it took several months to work for my anxiety.
It also took me a long time to get started on it. I kept trying it, but even 5 mgs would make me freak out. I did 2.5 for a week, then 5 for a week, then 10 for about a month, and now I am stable on 20.
I highly reccomend that you give it a shot, but be patient.
