Posted by Phillipa on May 10, 2007, at 12:38:53

I don't get it my neighbor's lexapro pooped out. She was given effexor to start at 37.5mg and then at one week up to 75mg. She also takes those bars of xanax 6mg a day. And in two days of the lower dose effexor gave up 4 of the bars of xanax and is only on two? No withdrawal I don't get it no start up either says she feels great. Does she know a secreat we don't or most don't? Any answers I think it's quite bizaree? Thanks Phillipa

Hi again Phillipa,

My story is *almost* the same. I jumped from Effexor XR 75mg to 150mg in 2 days, and then jumped to 225mg 3 days later. No problems whatsoever (other than when I initially tried the Effexor XR and attempted to titrate the "approved" way).

I was at the point of taking 2mg Klonopin twice per day, but since the Effexor XR, I only take 2mg Klonopin just once per day.

I had no start-up problems with the Effexor XR (after getting past the 2 days at 75 mg), and absolutely no withdrawals from halving my benzo dose.

I was feeling great on the Effexor XR when I first began the 150mg dose. I could tell immediately that this med liked me. I am taking 300mg now, and I seem to be able to take life in stride a little better....plus don't have as much need for the benzos (although I'll never give those up! On the rare occassion, I have needed my full 4mg of Klonopin...like when my daughter was having surgery).

But yes....I do believe that Effexor can actually start working very, very quickly (since I'm living proof of it). I don't know why that is, but I'm taking it as a blessing. Great big hugs for your friend!!!!

God bless Phillipa!
Sandy

Focus on your situation and response to meds....

Two things come to mind, Phillippa.

1.) she probably doesn't question most of what her doctor is prescribing and increases her meds without a thought as I used to do when I was a new, obedient patient. Now I question most things, but I always try to at least give everything a chance for my own peace of mind and belief that you have toat least try and do what is recommended.

2.) Everyone's response to medications is different based on the biological events that have triggered the condition so that is why the expression mmv (mileage may vary) is true.

You can never compare your situation with another's, although it is only natural. I know that what I respond to may or may not be like anyone elses, but it is usually not anywhere near the same, since my depression is not typical and your anxiety is not either. Plus you have the thyroid effect which complicates things, making for a more resistant type of anxiety.

Have you increased your Luvox dose to 100 yet?...I hope you are able to do that to see for yourself what will happen. It's still a low dose, since my drug book says 300 is the max. It says to split the dose once you get to 100.

Stargazer I know as I've taken this med twice with good results. first time up to 300mg and that with chloral hydrate and ativan I was very relaxed and felt well. Second time a different pdoc and this time to 250mg and felt almost high for about two weeks. Then I could not tolerate it except in small doses. So it may or may not work. But I know four others I met here that responded to effexor the same way. And I think they also had klonopin. Seems strange that the longest thread in history about effexor has so many both positive and negative responses. Love Phillipa ps may be my next med tried it peri-menopausal couldn't take it then.

Did you increase your dose to 100 mg of the Luvox, Phillipa? Let us know how the 100 mg is affecting you, if you've felt any effect so far.

I was given Effexor XR to treat Valium induced depression. At the same time I stopped taking Valium and Xanax for good. I don't know if it was going on Effexor, going off benzos, or a combo of both, but I felt better within days. So far, no side effects from the Effexor, either.
