Hey all. I am currently taking 50mg of Seroquel to help me sleep at night in addition to 3mg of Lunesta (which I'm not sure is even helping.)
I keep reading how people say Trazadone works wonders for sleep. How is it in regard to weight and next-day drowsiness?
I know it's MUCH cheaper than either the Seroquel or Lunesta I'm already taking. And that is a plus. But is it any better or at least comparable?
Also can Trazadone be taken at night while Effexor XR is taken in the daytime? I take 75mg of Effexor XR when I wake up and just don't want to risk an interaction or anything.
Any input would be greatly appreciated as I am already spending tons on my medications as it is! Hundreds per month and that is WITH prescription insurance!
Thanks so much. I look forward to hearing your insight.
Hugs,

Hi,
I have taken both for sleep relief in the past.
Seroquel... worked initially but then I developed Akathisia after a week... unusual for this one.. BUT can happen.
Trazodone... I dab of this and I will go to sleep, and be out... REALLY out.My vote is for trazodone... but keep in mind we are all wired 100 percent differently, so one person's potion might be another's poison.

I'm so sorry you got Akathisia from Seroquel but glad you're no longer taking it. And from the way it sounds, Trazodone may be the trick for me as I need to be out because I usually have to sleep with earplugs. Noisy upstairs neighbor and thin windows.
Thanks so much for your response. I have found it to be very helpful and may ask my new psychiatrist about this when I see her on May 29th. I only wish I could get in earlier!
Thanks again and take care!

I developed akathisia on only 50 mg. It was one of the most terrible things that has happened to me. Inner hell is what it felt like. What dose were you on?

Since I'm so hard to get to sleep never through the night my insurance medicaire has no fee for trazadone. Would it maybe work for me with the luvox at night too and the benzo could I cut down? What dose for a chronic bad sleeper for many years? And I need some sedation during the day as I can't sit still. Thanks for much and not trying to hyjack your thread was hoping it would help us both. Love Phillipa

Hi,
I've used them both. Trazodone at 50 to 100mg and Seroquel at 25 to 50mg. I can't imagine getting movement disorders at 25mg of Seroquel. Some people with psychosis take up to 750mg per day, and this med is noted for less movement disorders than the other APs. I have had akathisia with Abilify and Geodon so I know how miserable it is. Once again, we are each a different animal. My vote goes to Seroquel, because at 25mg, I just feel better on it. Oh, and it almost always works for me, unless I get to typing on this machine!
Take care,
Jedi

I've tried both. Trazodone did not work for me but Seroquel does.

I personally liked trazodone much better than seroquel. Trazodone did have hangover but it was much more tollerable IMHO.
I too got movement issues on just 25-50mg. I could feel it as it came out of my system I would feel more controll over my walking as it left my system. Low doses didn't create visable movement disorder, but one that you could feel. Ie less fluidity.
Trazodone I felt better the next day not worse.

Does Trazadone block your head up?
Someone said that in a previous thread.
