How long does Valium Last anyway?

Posted by rjlockhart on April 6, 2007, at 0:05:21

This is to a post abouve about Valium lasting only 2 hours.

I read somewhere that Valium or Diazpeam lasts only 1 hour when used in IV's in hospitals, thats why they use Lorazepam to calm patients down.

And i have heard so many times in the past about, valium can last days in a person, but now im hearing it lasts only 2 hours? What, does diazepam have a spefic half life, or it just varies in people.

Hi rj

Diazepam has a half-life (t1/2α) of 20-50 hours, and desmethyldiazepam [the main metabolite of diazepam] has a half-life of 30-200 hours

Continual daily doses of diazepam will quickly build up to a high concentration in the body (mainly in adipose tissue), which will be far in excess of the actual dose for any given day.[13][15]

Hi Phillipa

Sorry to hear you are not sleeping. I know what it's like. I heard, from blueberry I think, that half or quarter of a 7.5 mg Remeron (Mirtazipine)works good for sleep. Haven't tried it myself. Worth a go? He said the trick is to take less not more. Half should do it.

Regards

ronaldo

Ronaldo thanks for replying yes I was on remeron and chloral hydrate and for one night added seroquel which was discontinued the next day. And I took low dose remeron for over a month with chloral hydrate and xanax at one time and was not aided by remeron. I have a pattern til lately of waking after four hours due to the birth years ago of my first and fear she would stop breathing. I was only l9 at the time. So what's happening now I think I know is that the endo when I started seeing him planted a seed that I had to take sythroid in the middle of the night. So a trigger goes off. For four years all docs said it didn't matter when I took my sythroid as long as levels were fine which they were until a bout of diverticulitis and then everything went haywire. I really don't like this endo and may change. Love Phillipa
