My psychiatrist thinks that I may have the non-hyperactive type of ADD.
I'm now taking 40 mg of Adderall XR and to my surprise, I found that it actually makes me tired!
I know adderall is a stimulant, and everyone who I know who is taking the drug has felt energized. However, I become exhausted and want to take a nap after taking the drug.Has anyone ever heard of someone becoming extremely tired after taking Adderall?

Not specifically, but paradoxical reactions to medications are definately not unheard of.

This is normal. The notion of amphetamine being something that makes you, more often than not, "hyper" is a fiction--unless you're taking large doses.
People with attentional problems--like myself--are especially prone to experiencing this for whatever reason. It will subside over time.

True, I felt lazy and larthegic taking ~20mgs Dexedrine daily, i had the most wonderfull deep sleep after taking a single 5mg pill early on, total mind quietness, i woke up after a couple hours and felt like i had slept a hard eight hours.

I have also experienced tiredness from amphetamine. (adderall, dexedrine) ...I had figured it was a side-effect from the drug's effects on D2 receptors (which can theoretically cause side-effects like drowsiness), but that's just an idea of mine.
Methylphenidate is more stimulating for me, by the way. It has helped me with non-hyperactive ADD-type symptoms.

Did this to me also. I tried 5-120mg and it made me tired and irritable. I tried xr and regular release. I hate adderall!
The only stimulant that I have tried that I find even a bit stimulating is Didrex.
Peace,
kaye

I just started taking adderall this week after recently being diagnosed with adhd. Tired was my first thought. I took a naps in the middle of the day the first couple of days and slept for about 3 hours and woke up as if I slept all night. I am now on my 4th day of the medication. I am not sure if tired is the word...I think the word I would use now is slowed down...I feel like i am in slow motion and not in a hurry? I can listen to people talk with getting the agitated get to the point your waisting my CPU time feeling I that I used to have.
