That is one of the most heaviest antipsychotic i think haldol.

People in psych wards take that.

What is your experience?

Actually the "heaviest" is Clozaril with socially problematic side effects but can be considered the "gold standard" for some tought forms of schizophrenia

Haloperidol just has among the most nastiest EPS

Haloperidol was great for me. Thorazine was not so bad either.
Everyone is different. I kinda wish I was back on haloperidol, great antipsychotic in my opinion

The reason Phillipa said:

"Matt major tranqilizers with lots of side effects. You don't want or need them Love Phillipa"

is because she knows him and what he's been
taking and for what, and with that knowledge
she made that statement. One thing that
we have that most psychiatrists don't have
is personal experience with both effects and side-effects of the drugs they prescribe.
The psychiatrists that learn from their patients are better for it and more help to them in general.

Thorazine and Haldol are probably most
overused in the elderly population in
nursing homes, because they are cheap.
These people need these drugs least of
all but they keep them 'quiet'.

... and this is part of what was ignored in the initial presentation of CATIE (Clinical Antipsychotic Trials of Intervention Effectiveness).

Sure, old line drugs can be as effective as new atypical agents which have some of their own drawbacks but it doesn't take into account the human dignity aspect of the patient, such as EPS and the likelihood of TD, especially in the elderly and those with affective disorders.

YES>YES>YES!!!!

How horrible can that be...strapped into a
wheelchair or sitting in a chair in a dayroom,
your mouth making strange movements, your
arms and legs jerking around. If you're
unfortunate enough to have akathisia, they're
liable to interpret that as agitation and give
you MORE Haldol or whatever.

A living nightmare....
