Recommend a good Pdoc in Boston area?

Posted by KaraS on December 11, 2006, at 1:17:58

My mother needs to see someone with experience with treatment resistant depression. She's also on all kinds of pain medication right now because of a back problem so they need to be knowledgable about the interactions of medications.

I know of Dr. Goldberg's list but my mother really needs to see someone who is kind and compassionate.

If you know of anyone who fits the bill, please let me know.

Thanks.

I don't know if this helps or not, but there's a big name clinic (I'm so sorry that I don't remember the name-it's a free standing psych hospital in the Boston area affiliated with Harvard and probably Mass General- as they are also linked to Harvard) and they're supposed to be very good with treatment resistant depression. They did some of the original research on the EMSAM patch that was released earlier this year. You could probably Google EMSAM and get names from their research...this hospital is also mentioned in the initial press releases from Somerset Pharmaceuticals and Bristol Myers Squibb. Sorry again that I don't know anyone personally to recommend, but I think that I remember some babblers a long time ago that mentioned this group too in a positive manner. Good luck to you.

I think that would be the hospital in Belmont. I hadn't thought of them for outpatient services but I should look into it. That's a really good suggestion. Thanks so much!

Believe you are referring to McLean Hospital...well known for psych reputation.

You might want to give Massachusetts General a call. If you don't want to be treated as an outpatient there, they can give you some recommendations. They might also be conducting studies there that you might be interested in.

Yes, that's the one I was thinking of. Mass General is another good recommendation for my mother.

Unfortunately my sister is going to go with someone a friend of hers recommended which means they'll probably just keep trying the same old SSRIs that haven't worked on her before... but at least I'll have a plan ready if/when that doesn't work out again.

Thanks again for the help.
