For me at least….
I recently had to switch from Lexapro to generic Celexa due to insurance issues. The first two weeks were okay and I actually felt the new cheap pill had a nudge of betterness in the anxiety controlling department. Weeks three, four and five did not go well. Gradually, I felt I was losing the depression symptom control I had become accustomed and started feeling the familiar (yet gone for quite some time) symptoms of depression. For me that meant a lack of drive and motivation, sleep problems, lack of focus, irritability, sadness and generally an attitude of wallowing pity for myself. To add, I started experiencing a very strange bout of chest discomfort and some GI non-specifics of: “Just didn’t feel right”. I soldiered through with thoughts it might be a startup adjustment thing. ….It got worse. To boot, all of this lovely me was becoming apparent to friend and foe alike in my RL.
To make an already long boring story shorter…. I switched back to Lex. The results have been great with a return of the me I like to be.
Why am I coming back here to tell this? I dunno know really…. other than to share.Make any judgments you like - I’ve probably heard them. I am NOT Forest Labs poster child by choice. I can tell you, I believe no one but us knows how we feel and I think Lex is a better fit for me.

Glydin I'm glad you posted this as I have been on them both. Celexa just made me feel dragged out and tired. Lexapro did the opposite it wired me. So who says generics are better? Thanks for sharing important stuff. Love Phillipa

I wish the generic had worked out as it would have been more ecomonical AND (more important to me) less of a hassle to get it covered. I'm not too sure if I had done brand name, it would have been any different.
I think it's so individual in many ways. My Klonopin has been generic for a long time (thus I guess I should not say I take Klonopin - the other name is too long for this brain to spell correctly - smile) and that works out fine for me. Some folks loath generic K. So, unfortunatly, it's a try and see situation.... nothing new there.

I'm glad to hear that things are back on track for you now that you've gone back to Lexapro. I found Celexa to be dulling and fatiguing.
I'm thinking of switching to Lexapro, so it's encouraging to hear that there are indeed people who respond well to it. I'm nervous to switch, but, hey, if I am going to take something, I would like to at least have some benefit from it.
Anyway, glad things are working out.

~~~ It has been great for me. I went on it in March '05 after SWEARING for years I would never touch another SSRI - I'm very glad I gave it a whirl and came off my own highhorse.
If you do decide to try Lex, I hope it works as well for you as it has for me.
I appreciate your kind words.
