I've been taking Valium to treat anxiety for almost 2 years and recently stopped. My anxiety has been a persistent issue and I found the Valium helped me accomplish a number of things I'd been unable to for years before such as going back to school, changing careers, driving (it sounds so stupid but its a big deal) and even managed to have extra energy/motivation to launch an arts community/site.
The general motivation issue is what I'm currently finding most challenging. Going out in public is manageable but exhausting. Since I've stopped the Valium I've fallen back into doing just enough to get by. Work, minimal social interactions, obsessive avoidance (games, movies).
I'm considering trying Provigil (currently on Stablon which I'll continue, but I'm not getting remarkable results). Does anyone with generalized anxiety have any experience with this?
I've spent 30 years just getting by and its hard to just curl up and go back to sleep.

Provigil is like caffiene but without the jitters. You could try it, but if you are real sensitive to caffiene i woudn't take a chance.

Its funny actually, I think I can drink coffee but my wife claims I can't (she can't so I'm not sure if it's simple bias).
I did used to have a Ritalin habit (years ago) that didn't increase my anxiety (although tachycardia was what worked as my wake-up call).
It increased both my motivation (as the valium has) and my creativity (that is before my dose escalation pushed way beyond reasonable).
I suppose thats sort of how I've ended up curious about Provigil. From what I've read there is no high or rush, which is good for me.
I'm really hoping to get my life back.
Thanks,
Zach

I would say no. Even wellbutrin isnt given very often to people with anxiety problems.

If you did okay w/ritalin, you should be fine with provigil. I have taken very high doses of provigil with a very minimal effect. But, my brother has insomia problems and has been on provigal for over a year, he loves it, says it helps with lack of sleep fatigue and helps keep him cognitively sharp. I would say give it a try, if you don't like it simply quit taking it. Best wishes to you.-Monte
