Any thoughts on the varying effects of different ssri/ssnri on nightmares and lucid dreaming.
I have terrible trouble sleeping (take zolpidem as a sleeing tablet but this only lasts for a few hours). I wake up in full panic attacks, have major nightsweats, lucid dreaming and am very aware of myself thinking and thinking in my sleep. Any tips? It really makes me feel terible

I sweat nightly on 63% in the house. I think the SSRI's are the cause of the sweating. The dreaming sometimes I do and other times not. Love Phillipa

hi Rani
I'm on 90 mg of cymbalta (SNRI)
and i have some minor night sweating. I got the anxious ruminating in the middle of the night. It was my first symptom of depression, I think. I would wake up in the wee hours, and not be able to fall asleep again. It is terrible.I didn't really get that much relief with the SNRI, and so now I take seroquel (25) mg at bedtime. It is very sedating (ZZZzzz) and it also takes away a lot of rumination. I think this might be because it is an "anti-psychotic" [don't be afraid!] and so it kind of puts a damper on my inner voice of criticism. My pdoc said it would augment my SNRI. I think he's right. I don't need it to sleep any more, but I tried not taking it for 4 days, just to see, and what do you know? The middle of the night anxiety came back. Sometimes I only take a half tablet if I'm really tired. I need about 7 hours of sleep after taking the seroquel. It might make me kind of hungry in the am too. Oh well. At least I can sleep through the night.
I have strange dreams too. I mentioned to pdoc, and he said that a lot of that will go away as my depression retreats, and as I get used to the meds. He's right. I still have funny dreams (last night my T was sitting in my office as I typed about him on p-babble, and we were conversing in fluent German. oh well. it was a funny dream :)
best to you-

You may want to talk to your dr. about Trazodone. It's an old school AD that pretty much shuts down lucid dreaming at the right dose. In fact, I stopped dreaming entirely on it. It helps you get great sleep also as it increases slow-wave phase sleep.
Hope this helps...

Yeah, SSRI's can interfere with sleep patterns.
When I was on celexa I would have a terrable nightmare each and every night. Sometimes I'd be up and out of bed even before I woke up.
What drugs are you currently taking ?
