Posted by lisapo on June 19, 2006, at 12:09:10

my dr. prescribed me lamictal for o.c.d., i have not seen anyone mention they were on it for that. i am also on lexapro & zanax (when needed). i have had a problem with ocd since i was a young girl & told my dr. i didn't think meds would work, i obsess on so many things, have certain rituals with counting & stuff. i guess i will try it though.

I do the counting stuff too. But like you never heard of lamictal for that. I'm taking luvox for that. Maybe it's to supplement your antidepressant like what my doc is using it for. Love Phillipa

lamictal activates the orbitofrontal cortex- that circuit with the basal ganglia is, I believe, thought to be the problem in many ocd cases. Give it a shot. I believe it also does something to serotonin.

Lamictal for OCD??? hmmm...do you have any other concomitant diagnoses....this alone, for OCD, seems preety strange and not a first line choice by any means. But, who knows it could do the trick. lamictal is very good as a anti-depressant augmenter, but seems to loose effect in time...it is supposed to help derealization and depersonalization problems...but did little for me in that area...it is also an anti-epileptic....

Titrate slow.....

the only problem i have is that i get anxiety once in a while. my dr. put me on lexapro for that then when i told her about my little rituals (counting, obsessing on certain numbers and if i don't do the ritual i think someone in my family will die) she prescribed me lamictal. she told me that if i look up info on it it will say it is used for seizures but she said they also use it to help people like me.
