> Thanks--I'm not sure what you're looking for. Individual differences in response to the drug are usually what determines the timing of the dosing. If a drug makes one drowsy, it makes more sense to take it just before one intends to sleep. Alertness, on the other hand, goes along with daytime dosing.
One other possible influence is half-life. An individual's complement of liver hormones might affect the interval between doses, with respect to minimizing fluctuations in serum concentration.
The answer to what I take your question to be is, it depends. In other words, the timing of drug dosing is conditional.

Hi G
I usually take citalopram in the morning, but I've also taken it at night. I don't think it makes any difference for me.
During the first few weeks of treatment, SSRIs are usually taken in the morning. After this point, it probably doesn't matter when you take it provided that you take it at approximately the same time each day.

Just a poll type question. I have always taken mine in the AM and recently, I'm getting a bit drowsy after dosing - this is new after over a year. I wanted to see if folks generally don't find a difference and/or the reason they had for taking it morning versus evening or night. The drowsiness isn't bad and I can deal. I do NOT want a nighttime dose to disturb my sleep which is great and has been for a while.

It doesn't seem it would matter; at least that is what I thought. But it does matter to me-about 2 PM is a great time-every time I try to change the time for convenience, I feel worse. That was Paxil. I'm taking Prozac now and maybe that doesn't matter-but it still seems like 2 PM is the best time. I have no theory.

pdoc started me taking cymbalta in pm. The rationale was that I could sleep through the potential nausea. it didn't work so well, because he didn't realize how intractible my insomnia was. A few hel*ish days later, I got 25mg seroquel. now I take both in evening. lights out, and i get a nice 6 hours of sleep. I'd like to get 8. Oh well.

Lexapro would put me to sleep if I took it in the morning. Clonazepam and doxepin help me sleep a good 8 hours. I used to have to take Effexor around noon in order to be able to sleep at night even with the clonazepam and doxepin. I should probably split my clonazepam into 3 doses as recommended by my ex-PDOC for getting the best steady level in me, but it makes me sleepy during the day.

When to take the dose depends on how one responds to it. Prozac was stimulating for me, so I took it in the morning. Paxil caused insomnia, so I took it in the morning. Remeron was sedating, so I took it in the evening.
Just recently restarted lexapro. I used to take it in the morning. I noticed it made me sleepy during the morning, then a little depressed in the afternoon, and then I felt perfectly fine in late afternoon and evening. So now I'm trying it in late afternoon, to try to shift the pattern in my favor.

No problem.
I know you are a smart guy, I thought maybe I wasn't making myself clear - it's not out of the realm of what I've been known to do. I've had some muddy, murky posts over the years (Smile)
