I'm not sure what you're looking for. Individual differences in response to the drug are usually what determines the timing of the dosing. If a drug makes one drowsy, it makes more sense to take it just before one intends to sleep. Alertness, on the other hand, goes along with daytime dosing.

One other possible influence is half-life. An individual's complement of liver hormones might affect the interval between doses, with respect to minimizing fluctuations in serum concentration.

The answer to what I take your question to be is, it depends. In other words, the timing of drug dosing is conditional.
