Lamictal and skin rash

Posted by ben on April 15, 2006, at 4:38:41

I was on 175 mg of Lamictal when I had to go off completely. This is to see if the headaches are coming of Lamictal. If not I would like to take Lamictal again but wanted to know if I could increase the dose more quickly as the first time (each week 25 mg instead of 2 weeks)? I didnt have any skin problems so I wonder if reexposition could be more quickly?!

How long have you been off of Lamictal?

Unfortunately, you will have to start low and increase the dosage gradually. One can react adversely to Lamictal on subsequent exposures despite the lack of a reaction previously. A conservative doctor might want to follow the suggested startup schedule. If it were me, I would probably want to go faster than that. I won't recommend it for you, but for me, I would want to start Lamictal following a titration schedule closer to the weekly dosage increments that you have suggested.

I have had many moments of great depression, obsession, anxiety, anger, etc. I am now taking both 150 mg Wellbutrin and 400 mg Lamictal. I have had no adverse side effects from either. At first I didn't think it was working, but when I forgot to take a couple doses and my moods went back to being jumpy, I realized it does work.

My pdoc has recommended Lamictal several times but I have declined due to fear of THE RASH. I am a fair skinned redhead and have had rashes caused by PCN, Tegretol, Bextra, and Zyprexa. The side effect profile otherwise seems much better than the other choices I could add to my current cocktail. Any comments?

From what most others posters have said go up slowly on the lamictal 25mg at a time I think not sure. I believe the answer to the initial thread starter was for someone who has taken lamictal in the past. Love Phillilpa
