Ed_UK - R U Out There?

Posted by corafree on March 21, 2006, at 10:49:52

I can't remember what other tricyclic besides Pamelor you suggested I might try, and cannot find the post. Was it Elavil??? Something makes me think not.

I hope you get this a.s.a.p. as am awaiting return call, well a lot of return calls really, but this one from my P.

Am experiencing same intolerable side effects w/ Abilify as did on Trileptal.

My eyes are burning, my fingers are swollen, my body aches. I tried stay on Trileptal w/ these side effects over a good week and nothing changed. Even tried treating the adverse reactions.

hopetohearfromyou, tks, cf

Ed was blocked, and may not be back yet. We all hope he gets back soon.

As for TCAs, could it have been desipramine? That's come up a lot as one of the two TCAs with the most benign side effect profile.

Hope that helps.

Hi

I'm back :)

I suggested amitriptyline due to your chronic pain. An initial dose of 5-10mg at night would be appropriate. The dose may be increased as required. In the treatment of pain, it is rarely necessary to exceed 75mg/day.

Racer ..

I know one was Pamelor/nortriptyline, and not sure if other was Elavil/amitriptyline or not. I'll look up desipramine.

All ..

I'm having bad side effects w/ this 5mg Abilify. I ache all over and have a fever. My eyes are burning and sore. My hands are so swollen that I'm fearing I'll need to cut a ring off one finger.

I don't feel stoned, no involuntary movements, no hangover, or anything really 'off the wall'.

Just feel like have a really bad case of the flu and want to just lie down and close my eyes.

I had this same 'eye thing' when I tried Trileptal. I noticed a bit of a headache midday today. I had HAs all the time when tried Lamictal. Seroquel left me 'way hung over'. I believe these are all in class w/ Abilify. Nurse from the nurse's line mentioned Geodon(sp?) was in the class. I've a couple friends that did not do well at all on that.

Anyway, this nurse's line (the best thing I've found out here) is 24-hrs and I'm to call if develop hives, rapid heart beat, higher fever, or increased anxiety.

Called for my P and gave info, and another P apparently said to take half of the 5mg until mid April when I see my P again. Ps weren't concerned at all about these side effects??!!

I took it at hour of sleep and I awoke around 5a! I don't need to wake that early! I have a hard time becoming comfortable (back injury) and falling asleep; usually don't until 12a or so. I should sleep until at least 8a.

Maybe I should take the half now, or maybe I won't take it at all.

I have an appt across the metro tomorrow and need to feel well enough to get there!

Now I remember how difficult it was to try different meds while I was still working.

All of you that I am so thankful for, pls forgive me if I don't reply to messages this eve'. Feel awful 'funky'.

Because of you all, I am 'thinking there is hope' tonight, even tho' I feel like 'poop'. (Did I really say poop?)

Tks you all.

I may have been somewhat out of line last eve. I know I cursed and tried to use a * for a letter and was typing so fast that I did spell out the entire word.

Tks Dr. Bob for not gettin' after me. I really, really appreciated all that was said and took it in.

I guess I have to say I'm thankful that the 'computer age' is here; an odd thing to say for an ole' hippie like me! (No, I don't have long grey hair and a cane!)

lovecf

Hey .. tks for quick response!

My power has been out, but my new P actually called my cell (He, himself, not someone at the front desk!) and left a message (Couldn't p/u in time.) acknowledging 'what was probably more than just bad side effects' to Abilify.

This will be the 3rd or 4th anti-psychotic I've not tolerated. (I am not psychotic .. well, big psychotic, if you know what I mean.)

I wanted to get online quickly, before power goes out again, and am so glad you are back and responded.

When P calls back (I pray.), I may discuss w/ him amitriptyline or Elavil, right? I guess of the tricyclics, Elavil and Pamelor, have the lesser side effects. What about desipramine/Norpramin???

I'm just awfully sad and hopeless as of late.

Seems Effexor-XR totalled me out re: ADs, at least when it comes to that class. No more of that ever; I never improved; only masked symptoms. The class w/ Prozac, Celexa, Zoloft, also proves ineffective.

Only on trazodone for sleep and valium for nerves.

(I do recall a trial on Elavil a long time ago that didn't stick. But, at that time I had not yet had a hysterectomy and had a totally different lifestyle. I've had same drug work quite differently, at different 'times' in my life. Do you have any thoughts re: Pamelor or Norpramin instead? Or just any thoughts re: this old class? If not, that's fine. Maybe this P will. I'm glad to have something to suggest tho'. I feel you guys have helped me so very much.)

I'll check back online in an hour. Don't want to miss an 'actual P call'!

tkssomuch, cf

Racer:

Did I tell you/anyone my P called me on the phone??? It blew me away .. impressed.

He said get off Abilify .. felt adverse reactions too strong to mess w/.

I got an emerg/appt w/ another P next Tue, as mine out of town. I mentioned the three tricyclics. Think he's leaning towards Norpramin or Pamelor. He's allowing the emerg/appt/P to write and let me begin next week. Worth a shot; never know. Don't believe they can hurt me.

Thank you for sub'ing for Ed_UK; your memory better than mine. Feelin' better, two appts tomorrow and four days next week. (I'll get this system under control if it's the last thing I do!) Per my request, rec'd transfer to a T who is more my age and has a lot of 'grief' experience. The tenseness of the latter days caused flare-up of back pain, but will try to use my 'relaxation' techniques. Have to remember my priorities .. attending my appts, maybe go to a group, accessing the community action agency, and appealing some losses of financial assistance (re-apply dates were smackdab in the middle of this tumultuous move and my usual ability to keep assistance maintained, was lacking. I wrote explanation, as did my support daughter, and my case worker will write ltr tomorrow. Every little bit counts as I'm in 'Catch-22 area' of system. Just above poverty level, so not entitled to medical assistance.

Did you want to know all this .. guess you didn't have a choice. Sorry .. sharing feels like I'm talking to everyone.

My other daughter has me thinking re: something odd, and I may post Alternatives; Medorrhinum. I tried to ply some info out of my mother yesterday and she was, at first, very freaked, but symptoms similar to mine tho' not as extreme.

Tonight decided to move bedside stand on the side of my bed where no one is, (And am glad no one is!) to wall across bedr and set TV upon. I'm going on hunt for a 'neck supportive' comfy chair and will make myself a 'special place' to read, write, relax, watch TV, listen to music.

Ed:

I forgot to tell my P about my chronic pain! (My initial P out here wasn't nice; wasted my first (and I think last) hour appt. w/ him.

So anyway, I don't know if I'll ever get to spend much time w/ my new P (He's good .. even telephoned me re: Abilify adverse reaction.)

He's leaning towards desipramine or nortriptyline. Said something about no more than 75mg. Don't believe have ever tried either of these.

I will remember to tell him about my back!

If these don't work .. wonder what my next move should be. What class haven't I tried in the last 10yrs? Prozac etc no more. Eff-XR etc no more. Looks like anti-psychotics/mood stabilizers etc. also no more. What class am I missing? Are there any mood stabilizers that are not anti-psychotics?

me = GAD, PTSD, PROB' 'SOFT' BORDERLINE

Ed - What does 'soft' mean? I'm thinking .. they 'seek help when have suicidal ideation' and 'do not cut'.

My new P explained that borderline is like being on the edge of psychosis .. scary.

Hi CF

Have been having computer problems, sorry :(

>I forgot to tell my P about my chronic pain!

You definitely need to discuss it, it's very important!

>What does 'soft' mean?

It means that the symptoms are either not very severe, or not very clear. Basically, it means that the diagnosis is questionable.

>My new P explained that borderline is like being on the edge of psychosis .. scary.

I don't think it is really. This is a old-fashioned idea which seems to be disappearing :)

Tks! I don't see why he even felt the need to explain 'borderline'; it is actually suggestive and I don't think that's good .. ya' know, putting a little fear in me. Glad to hear your take. bestwishes,cf
