In my experience, pharmacy techs are snotty about morphine. I don't think you take morphine though. Neither do I for that matter.

Hi Eddy,

Between my husband and I, we're at the pharmacy every week, and yes that's been mentioned. It's better now, since I'm only taking two drugs -- Wellbutrin and Buspar -- but it used to be really bad! And, worse still, I'm still more than a little agoraphobic, so I usually can't go to the pharmacy myself. My poor husband! He's diabetic, so he's there for various sorts of insulin, syringes, and strips, as well as things like Lipitor, which diabetics who eat two eggs for breakfast every morning with two strips of bacon are suggested to take. lol The doctor actually told him his cholesterol was great for a diabetic with that diet, but that it still needed to come down...
Anyway, I used to take FIVE different psychotropic drugs! We were trying to find what worked, so...
You're not alone, kiddo.

Hi
>What is it with pharmacy ppl anyway?
They don't understand your pain. They tend to look down on people who take benzos or opioids as 'addicts'. I know this because I work in a pharmacy. It's all true.

A few thoughts:
1. I win. :) I take six meds. I actually feel okay at the pharmacy, but embarassed at the dentist when they ask abt meds. I always tell them, but feel the need to explain that I'm not crazy, I just have very hard to treat depression.
2. Do you have a pharmacy that has a drive through? I'm wondering if that might help. Less contact w/ people and a quick get away.
3. I suspect that some of it is "in our heads" (although I have a hard time reminding myself of that). So many people take psychotropics now that it would be silly if they were judging us. It would be like judging someone for buying tampons. LOL.
Best,
EE

:-) that just reminded me of one of the last times I went to the dentist.......
I had to report my meds (I figured I should tell the truth) so I told them about the klonopin I was on at the time and that it was for anxiety.
Well the hygienist starting talking to me in this strange, slow, clear, trying to be calming in an over the top sort of way because I think she thought she was going to have some "issues" with me. It was sort of funny and disturbing at the same time.
I guess she was trying to be considerate, but I felt like she thought I'd be freaking out or something. Strangely enough dental work doesn't scare me all that much.

Did you see that film from a couple of years ago called Magnolia where Julianne Moore plays a woman going into a pharmacy for some very big Rxs for dangerous drugs, I forget exactly, probably amphetamines and opiates, and after some covert looks and phone calls the meds are dispensed and the pharmacist says something like 'Have a good time'. Julianna Moore becomes paralytic with rage, it's a wonderful scene, you might like to seek it out for practice or guidance.

I guess life is easier for all of those crazy folks who don't treat their problems, huh? ;)
> I guess she was trying to be considerate, but I felt like she thought I'd be freaking out or something. Strangely enough dental work doesn't scare me all that much.Yeah, me too for the most part. I fear being shamed for failing and having cavities (thanks, mom) but the actual pain of dental work doesn't worry me. Too many other things to worry about!

Yeah I'm a pharmacy tech Fairy.
I used to work in a pharmacy with an 'erection section'. You'd love it Fairy. All the Viagra, Cialis, Uprima and Levitra all together LOL.

LOL, you mean they DON'T judge you for tampons....oh, yeah it's condoms, right?! ; ) hmmm....my dentist has never asked about my meds, but i probably filled out some form eons ago. I do get anxiety at the dentist, and I hate laughing gas. Unfortunately, no drive thru on our plan. Oh well, I guess it'll toughen me up, right?

Hi Eddy,
LOL, did they call it that? An "errection section"? So, what did they call the ADHD section? I'm projecting at the pharmacy, I'm sure. I'm good at that.

I did. Not sure about anyone else ;-)

Fairy this is England, we don't have an ADHD section! The stimulants are in the controlled drugs cabinet, intermingled with bottles of methadone, amps of heroin, tubs of barbiturates etc.

Hey Eddy,
what was I thinking?! Gosh, I hope we don't get gov't healthcare. Here the gov't has screwed up the drug plan for the elderly, but it's no wonder. BTW, if anyone works for the gov't, I'm sorry, I don't mean any harm, but having the gov't in programs usually means things get worse and at a higher cost bec. of all the red tape. But i understand the need for healthcare for everyone, it should be that way. BUT then again, look at all the red tape with managed healthcare. S*cks.

After a couple of decades of picking up methadone at a pharmacy I have become inured (I hope) to the opinions of the world on this and other subjects, and look on it as an opportunity to learn to think for myself.
While we're on the subject of movies, has anyone seen Happiness by Todd Solondz??

Hi FW
You think so (that I'm stronger than you are)?
But I'm obsessed with what other people think of me, and have spent my life trying to please others, except when I have been too busy trying to offend them.

Hi Declan,
I'm a pleaser too, but I offend w/o meaning to! ; )
If you like to listen to CDs, I think this one is good, "Self Esteem: Your Fundamental Power" by Caroline Myss. It seems a bit harsh, and I'm only on the 2nd one, but there are some very good points. I keep seeing my mother in law as the person who scares me the most right now! She's such a B!

Hi Fairy
In my experience, pharmacists tend to have a strongly negative attitude to all controlled drugs. Most pharmacists seem to have very little clinical knowledge of the medicinal value of controlled drugs though. They tend to see them as the 'dangerous' drugs which must be locked away. Funny thing is, a lot of the drugs on the open shelves are more dangerous - although they don't have the same recreational value LOL.
The are a few oddities in the UK controlled drugs legislation. For example, medicines containing very small doses of opium (eg. Gee's linctus) can be sold without a prescription.

I take seven different psychoactive meds daily; two of which are controlled substances (not to mention my 3 other generalized health problems I have requiring 3-4 more maintenance dose meds) - some daily, others PRN. Still, at my pharmacy both my husband and I are known by our names and the pharmacy techs greet us from across the isles of the pharamacy before we even get up to the counter to hand them our prescriptions. When we pull up to the Rite Aid pharmacy we use to pick up drive-thru orders, they don't have to ask us who the drugs are for, they already know! It's really nice the way they seem to understand my and my husbands severe health problems and are particularly kind to us, I think, because of it. If you get "snooty" responses from anybody in the pharmacy you use, I'd look for a different pharmacy that is more family friendly. Pharmacy workers are not there to pass judgment, after all, so if they ever do come out and slight you, I would take it up with the store manager. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and all that. Good Luck!!
This is the end of the thread.
