In my experience, pharmacists tend to have a strongly negative attitude to all controlled drugs. Most pharmacists seem to have very little clinical knowledge of the medicinal value of controlled drugs though. They tend to see them as the 'dangerous' drugs which must be locked away. Funny thing is, a lot of the drugs on the open shelves are more dangerous - although they don't have the same recreational value LOL.
The are a few oddities in the UK controlled drugs legislation. For example, medicines containing very small doses of opium (eg. Gee's linctus) can be sold without a prescription.
