I realize maoi's tend to be a later stage attempt at culling the anxiety (my main concern)... What is the general success rate with these type of things? All types of benzos have not worked. WE're trying depakote with higher levels of a different benzo. If that doesnt work., may go to a reversable mao. What is the general rate of success with this class of drugs?
Thanks

> ThanksHi,
The older irreversible MAOIs are probably more likely to work for treatment resistant anxiety disorder. Nardil is the most studied and the gold standard for atypical depression and social anxiety. There are studies that show efficacy for the reversible MAOIs such as Moclobemide, but they are not as robust. For someone whos anxiety does not respond to benzos, I would guess it is treatment resistant. Have you tried high doses of clonazepam (3-4mg)? A combination of Nardil-75mg and clonazepam-1mg works for my treatment resistant atypical depression and social anxiety. Here are a couple of studies on Moclobemide and anxiety.
Good luck,
JediMoclobemide is effective and well tolerated in the long-term pharmacotherapy of social anxiety disorder with or without comorbid anxiety disorder.
