Hello,
I'm currently taking Cymbalta 30 mgs. (along with Eskalith 600 mg for bipolar II) I am not able to tolerate 60 mgs. of Cymbalta due to heart palpitations. My doctor recently added 10 mgs. prozac to the mix to help my residual depression. Are these safe to combine? He did mention a rare possibility of serotonin syndrome but the doses are farely low. Any info?

the mix could be really helpful...the only potential downside is that sometimes mixing antidepressants makes the levels of one or both meds go up in the blood, so although you're taking 30mgs cymbalta and 10mgs prozac the impact could be the equivalent of taking higher doses of one or both meds. This may or may not happen to you, and it may or may not be problematic...it sounds like a really conservative, careful medication adjustment. Just watch out for the serotonin syndrome (its relatively infrequent). You might want to consider (eventually) a full fledged switch to another agent(s)...maybe prozac with some buspar or something to boost efficacy. Anyway, good luck! keep us all posted!

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I think it is a fairly conservative dosage of both but I'll watch out for any signs of serotonin syndrome. I've been on most of the AD's available at one time or another so a complete switch is a possibility. I'm really not all that impressed with the Cymbalta.
